Joan Susie Buechler

Visitation will occur one hour in advance of Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church and lunch will follow the service, also at the Church A funeral Mass for Joan Susie Buechler; 91, of Rochester, Minn.; will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jul. 9, 2021 in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester with Father Russell Scepaniak officiating. She will be laid to rest in peace with her husband, Frederick Paul Buechler (1928-2005) in Calvary Cemetery.

Joan died peacefully Friday afternoon (Jul. 2, 2021) surrounded by her daughters after living a long, full life of faith, love, and family. Joan was born in St. Cloud, Minn. on Jan. 21, 1930.

Her mother, Mary Ganzer died within a few months of her birth and she was raised by her maternal Aunt Susie and Uncle Harry with her cousins Lorraine and Benny (Keogan). Joan’s father, Charles Roemer and siblings, Donald, Charles, Roy, Catherine “Kate,” and Patricia “Pat,” lived across town and they remained close. After high school, she went to St. Cloud Business College and briefly worked as a secretary. She married the one and only love of her life on May 30, 1951, in St. Cloud. They quickly started a family and when they moved to Rochester in 1964, they had six children. The seventh and last arrived in 1967. Joan dedicated her life to raising her seven children, and was steadfast in her unconditional love, support, and protection.

Her large, close family, committed to each other in good times and in bad, is a testament of her devotion and hard work. She will be dearly missed by her surviving family and friends including all of her children; Tim (Enxia) of Rochester, Tom of Rochester, Barbara (Brent McAbee) of Wilmington, N.C., Bruce (Cindy) of Denver, Colo., Lori (Peter) Vogel of Deerfield, Wisc., LuAnn (William “Watty” Watson) of Byron, and Robb (Kelly) of Rogers, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pat Gandolfo of New Hope, Minn.; as well as her daughter-in-law, Karin Steinlicht; sister-in-law, Rosella Nelson; and her many nieces and nephews and their families.

The family prefers memorials to Seasons Hospice House.

Dear Buechler family,

You all have our deepest sympathy at the passing of your mom and grandma.

When we moved in next door we met your mom and dad immediately. Fred came with a saw in hand to show us a tree that needed pruning. Joan came right behind him chastising him, “Fritz, they aren’t your children!” We knew it was going to be fun living next door to that wonderful family.

We have many great memories of those years. Prior to Covid, we would frequently see Joan at St. Pius for Mass, always accompanied by one of you. On the occasions when we could catch her after church, we enjoyed visiting with her.

Again, our sympathies and prayers of comfort are with you.

Carrie and I send our deepest condolences.  Joan had a wonderful life surrounded by her family that she would have done anything for.  Carrie and I are planning on attending the service today at 11am.  Again - our deepest sympathies.
