Jennie K. Dinneen

Jennie Katherine Clark was born July 14, 1949, to Wayne and Jane Clark, and departed September 20, 2023, surrounded by family in her home.

Jennie’s childhood home was strategically located close to both St Pius X Church and Assisi Heights. She and her four siblings had a modest upbringing that valued family and faith above all. These were the cornerstones to coping with life’s hardships. She carried those core values with her for the entirety of her life.

Jennie married Daniel Dinneen on February 3, 1968. The first four years of raising their family occurred when Dan was serving in the Navy. They were very mobile in those years, they moved nine times before returning to the place they would call home. Once the sacrifices they each had to make during that difficult time were completed, they were finally able to form a unified alliance and live together on their own terms.

Jennie was a dedicated ‘high functioning’ workaholic! In addition to running her own daycare while her kids were young, her jobs included stints at Mayo Clinic, Mayo High School, Region 10, and eventually IBM.

Jennie started her job at IBM as an entry-level secretary in 1978 and steadily advanced until retiring in 2003 as a Senior Human Resources Specialist. Jennie climbed the corporate ladder from the ground up, along the way earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues for her tireless work ethic. Her retirement was short-lived, she was reeled back in to run Excite Youth Camp for Girls. She was a role model and mentor to many girls and young women.

Passions include her lifelong faith, family, supporting her children in every way possible, spending time with many close friend groups, her hobbies (quilting, sewing, knitting, downhill skiing and especially Book Club), volunteering with Junior Achievement and time spent doting on her grandchildren, Connor and Eleanor.

When Jennie had her annual physical in 2016 she knew that she just “didn’t feel right’.  It was during the following year that she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Even as her health declined Jennie was still able to knit over 100 hats to donate to her favored charities.

Daughter Bonnie’s death in 2018 had a profound effect on Jennie.  Jennie was with Bonnie every step of the way in her three year battle with cancer.  Jennie’s own cognitive health began to deteriorate during this same timeframe. Of all the difficult problems Jennie tackled, this was the one she, nor anyone else, could solve.

Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years Daniel, son Patrick, son-in-law Nathan Hedrick, grandchildren Connor and Eleanor Hedrick, siblings Rusty (Denise) Clark, Ellen (Jim) Carey, Pat (Andrea) Clark, and Mickey Clark. Daughter Bonnie Hedrick, parents Wayne and Jane Clark, and sister-in-law Shelly having predeceased her.

One of Jennie’s favored farewells was “thanks a million”.  She lived a selfless life choosing to always serve others’ interests over her own. She will be missed by those fortunate enough to have been touched by her life. She lives on in the hearts of all who loved her, as well as those she mentored and supported in pursuing and achieving their own dreams and aspirations.

The family would especially like to thank Mayo Hospice for assisting Dan in taking exceptional care of Jennie, Visiting Angels, especially Jennie’s favorite Angel (you know who you are) and the staff at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus, Francis Building 2C, for providing care during her stay in July.

The funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at St Pius X Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 11.a.m. An additional visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3rd, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.

In leu of flowers memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at 3261 19th St NW #201 Rochester, MN 55901 or Unbound at 1 Elwood Ave Kansas City, KS 66103.

Thanks a million Jennie.  You left us with so much.

I was sad to read of Jennie's passing in the obituaries.  I worked with Jennie at the Regional Development Commission in the 1970's, where she spoke so lovingly about her little Bonnie and Rusty and husband Dan.  I am sad she had to go through cancer herself after losing Bonnie to this horrible disease.  God bless your family as you grieve her loss.

Dan & Family,

Sherrie and I are saddened to hear of Jennie’s passing - we express our sincere condolences on the loss of both Bonnie and Jen.  May God’s loving hand touch you, guide you and grant your family strength.  Matthew & Sherrie Mueller.

Dan and Family,

Jennie was a good friend and colleague for many years at IBM.  I will always be particularly grateful for her kindness to me and my children when I was going through a difficult time personally years ago.  I'm sure your hearts are broken, but I hope with some time your wonderful memories will quiet the sadness right now.

With sympathy,
