Jean Elizabeth Schendel

Jean Elizabeth Schendel of Rochester, MN passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the age of 88.

Jean, born May 28, 1929 in Connecticut, spent her childhood years residing in New Britain with her parents Emelia and Michael Healey. She married Ronald James Schendel in 1954, moved to Minnesota and started a family. The Schendels then moved to Poughkeepsie, NY and St. Louis, MO, returning to Minnesota in 1968. Jean and Ron had six children.

Jean was always the life of the party—highly creative with a witty sense of humor. Before marriage, she worked for Landers, Frary, and Clark in New Britain, CT and the State Capital in Hartford, CT. Her early work experience taught her to be savvy with money. While married, she employed those financial skills, investing in real estate while homemaking for her children and husband.

In addition to spending time with friends and family, in later years, Jean enjoyed vacationing in Florida during the winters and spending summers at her cabin in Minnesota where she delighted in her view of the beautiful sunsets over the lake. She also enjoyed music and would play the organ for family on holidays. Jean loved animals too—especially dogs, and she got a kick out of going to the dog park or watching the birds feeding on her deck at home in Rochester.

Jean was preceded in death by her daughter, Beth Ann Schendel, and her husband, Ronald Schendel. She is survived by her children, Michael Schendel (Jennifer Manning), Elise Schendel, Bryan Schendel, Renee Schendel, and Christopher Schendel; her grandchildren, Caitlin Schendel, Alexa Schendel, Audra Schendel, Rachel Schendel, and Joshua Schendel; as well as many dear friends and relatives.

The family would like to thank Helen Hallquist for all her help and support.

The Funeral Mass for Jean will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Pax Christi Catholic Church with Father Will Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at Pax Christi. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rochester, MN.

Memorials are preferred to St. Vincent de Paul of Pax Christi.

Condolences

The family of Jean Elizabeth Schendel has received the following condolences.

I am sorry to learn of Jean's passing.

Jean & Ron Schendel were friends of my parents, Don & Bonnie.  The loved to play 500 & Cribbage.  There was often a house full with four at a table.  It was quite an event as Jean, Bonnie and others would all banter over their strategy after the hands were played.  The hors d'oeuvres were always a special treat.  I remember spending time at the Schendel's cabin.  There are a great family!

I remember your Mother very well.  She was a delight to be around.  My parents really  enjoyed Ron and Jean.  I remember Beth too.  I am 70 years old now, and that was long ago, but I wanted you to know that the Birka family remembers her fondly and know that you have many happy memories too.  What a long life she had.  We send our condolences.

Mike, Elise, Brian, Renee, and Chris--I'm thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.  I am so sorry that I will not be able to the service but I will be there in thought.

Schendel family - Joy and I would like you to know that your entire family is in our thoughts and prayers. We will sure miss Jean's spunky attitude and smile at the lake. She is truely "one in a million". We hope that the memories that you shared take you through this difficult time.
