Jay L. Kisro

Jay Lincoln Kisro, 95 years old, a longtime resident of Rochester, MN passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 of natural causes surrounded by family and friends.

He was born to Fred and Grace (Block) Kisro on December 3, 1925 in Eagle Lake, MN.

He graduated from Rochester High School at 17 and enlisted in the Navy.

He served in the Philippines during World War II and was in transit on the USS Intrepid when it was attacked by kamikazes. He was very proud of his military service.

Following his time in the Navy, he worked at Montgomery Ward where he met his wife Joan Himle. They were married on April 8, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN.

He and Joan built a house in Rochester where they raised their four children, Jim (Susan) of Rochester, Jody (Bruce) Carlson of Lake City, Jill (Tim) O’Neill of Byron and John (Deb Schultz) of Rochester.

Over the years he worked at a number of different businesses including IBM and Ability Building Center. He also served as clerk of Marion Township for many years.

He loved to fish, play cards, and dance. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending Rochester Honkers baseball games.

He was a long-time member of the VFW and Elks Club.

He is survived by his 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his sister, Delores Vanderburg, and a special friend, Irene Blohm.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; their infant daughter, Jane Marie; his parents; his brother, Rex; and sisters, Rosemond Olson and Jeanette Stierlen.

There will be a celebration of life in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral home in Rochester, MN from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 6,2021. A private family service will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

The family of Jay L. Kisro has received the following condolences.

Jay was a true gentleman and a delightful person. He used to come to the Plainview Community Center for our live music in the summer. He will be missed. 

I enjoyed working with Jay at ABC for many years 

We would like to offer our sympathy and condolences to Jay's family and friends.


He was a delight to the staff and his neighbors here at High Pointe. Such a quick wit! He will be greatly missed.
