Janet (Jan) K. Jones
Janet (Jan) Jones passed away November 2, 2023. Jan was born July 17, 1945, in Austin, MN to Russell and Eleanor McAllister. She graduated from Pacelli High School and Ausin Technical School of Nursing. Jan then moved to Rochester and joined the staff of Rochester Methodist Hospital. Over the years she held various medical positions. The last twenty years, before her retirement, she was employed by Bear Creek Services.
Jan met John Paul Jones on her first day in Rochester. She found him unforgettable and after over fifty-five years of marriage and two great sons, she still found him unforgettable! When her boys were in school Jan was very active in the PTA, served on the Parent Advisory Board and chaired many fundraisers to buy the students supplies and equipment. Never one to miss her sons’ events, she was thrilled to follow her grandchildren’s activities as well.
Jan loved concerts, a good book, celebrating her Irish heritage (although part German), DIY projects and helping others with theirs. Mostly she cherished time spent with family and friends.
She would describe herself as a gray-haired lady with a caring heart who loved to laugh and hopefully was kind to all.
Jan is survived by her beloved husband John Paul; sons James Casey Jones (Beth), Joel (Greta) Jones; grandchildren Joseph, Cailin ‘Beverly’ and Katherine Jones; siblings Ron (Nancy) McAllister, Gary McAllister, Deb (Bob) Embrickson; nieces and nephews and in-laws Kate (Fidel) Ros, Kim, Karen, and Kurt Kohler along with extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the wonderful people who helped her through this journey. Special thank you to Dr. Roberto Benzo and the Mayo Hospice Team for their extraordinary care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2023, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with a luncheon following the service in the River Park Reception Hall. Visitation will be held one hour prior. The burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the Salvation Army.

Dear Jones family
please know you are in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time we were fortunate enough to have shared some terrific moments together , so many beautiful and fun memories. Jan was one of the kindest, selfless humans on this earth she always had kind words to say about everyone, we loved her spunk her humor her faithfulness to her family and friends Watching her struggles with health issues these last few years was painful but her courage to face every challenge thrown at her was admirable, her trust in God that he would take her home on his schedule and not hers Terry and I will forever hold a special place in our hearts and hang on to the precious memories and fun times we shared , Jan often would say she couldn’t fight the good fight without you John, Joe and Casey she loved you, her grandkids her brothers and sister so very much . Her struggles are now over and her legacy will be her beautiful face, infectious smile, kind heart and her faith in God.
we are grateful she was part of our lives. Peace and love to you all.
My sympathy to all the members of the Jones Family. Back when I was a Teacher/Coach at Austin Pacelli I had Jan in class as well as other members of her family. In addition, I have been Friends with John since 1980. Jan was an excellent student and a Special Person. Jan will be missed. God Bless.
I remember always going down to your house when I was with my grandparents (Bob and Laureen). You always had the brightest smile on your face and were so friendly.
