Jane was born July 6, 1940 in Rochester, to George and Lula (Young) Pagel. She was raised in Marion. She was involved in 4H as a child and loved raising and showing her Duroc pigs and Holstein cows.  She graduated from Rochester High School in 1958.  Jane met Gerald Mercer and they were married on November 18, 1961 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester.  They were married for 44 years.  They had two children, Steven and Kay.  She was a bank manager for many years.

Jane loved the farm and all the animals.  She was a devoted Twins fan and also enjoyed music.  She was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church and a member of the Senior Citizen Center.  She was an amazing cook and loved to make her scratch German chocolate cake for her brother Tony.  Her hobbies included sewing, quilt making, bowling coach, playing softball, and spending time with and spoiling her three grandchildren, Stephanie, Shelby and Cody.

Jane is survived by her children, Steven H. (Jackie) Mercer of Charles City, IA and Kay M. (Keith) Mahoney of Cannon Falls, MN; three grandchildren, Stephanie and Cody Mercer and Shelby Mahoney; one sister, Marion (Bill) Friedrich of Chatfield, and one brother, Clif (Lea) Pagel of Rochester.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry; parents; two sisters, Luella Lorch and Viola Noerenberg; and one brother Tony Pagel.

The Funeral Service will be at 11:00AM, Friday, October 16, 2015 at Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Condolences

The family of Jane E. Mercer has received the following condolences.

I was very sorry to have had to miss both the visitation and the funeral for Jane.   Sadly, I had a close friend's mother's visitation on Thursday evening and work meetings that I could not rearrange yesterday.  Jane served on the Board of Directors at the Rochester Senior Center for many years and served as President.  It was a pleasure to have her support and commitment to this organization.  She was a wonderful lady.  I know we have missed her leadership here at the Senior Center.

My sympathy to the family.

Sally Gallagher

Executive Director, Rochester Senior Center

To the family of Jane Pagel Mercer:  I was so sorry to read of her passing.  Many of you don't know me, but Jane and I went to school together

in Marion.  We were good friends all those years.  I lived up the hill and across the highway from her family.  My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
