James William Reed

James W. Reed died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Byron, MN at the age of 75 due to pancreatic cancer.

Jim Reed was born October 2, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN to an unwed mother and was adopted by Clarence and Marian Reed of Glencoe, MN. Jim graduated from Glencoe High School, where he met and married his high school sweetheart Dana Schultz on April 29, 1961 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe.

Jim and Dana lived in Glencoe until 1987, when they moved to a home on Lake Minnie Belle near Litchfield, MN. Jim worked as a mechanic at Harpel Brothers Chevrolet in Glencoe for 7 years and 3M in Hutchinson, MN for 30 years until taking early retirement in 1996. Jim and Dana then bought and managed the St. Cloud Campground & RV Park for 7 years. After selling the campground, they became ‘full timers’ living in their motor home traveling 43 states. Most years they wintered in Florida and summered in Minnesota near Lake Mille Lacs and the past two summers in Wabasha, MN.

Jim enjoyed being outdoors and fixing things. They owned a cabin in the Park Rapids, MN area for 17 years enjoying time with family and friends, fishing, water skiing and snowmobiling. Jim also enjoyed racing stock car in St. Peter, MN, watching NASCAR, riding motorcycle, boating on the Mississippi River and playing cards.

Jim is survived by his wife Dana of almost 55 years, his daughter Shelly (Dale) O’Groske of Byron, MN; grandchildren Reed and Ryan O’Groske of Byron, MN; half brother, Charles (Kathy) Gardner of Pinellas Park, FL; half sister, Carol (Steve) Geisler of Port Orchard, WA; and his AFS exchange student daughter, Astrid Amaya de Pineda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, who visited in March 2016.
Jim was proceded in death by his adopted parents Clarence and Marian Reed, birth parents Marion Lorenzen and Henry Gardner and half brother Albury Gardner.

It was such a pleasure knowing Jim. We didn't know him but for a couple years at the Motor Coach Resort in Webster but he was a kind and fun person to relate with. The Lord has other plans for you now and he will take care of forever. Bless you our friend.

It was with great sadness that we learned of Jim's passing. With a smile and positive attitude, he was always willing to help anybody. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.

Dear Dana and Family,

So sorry to hear about Jim's passing.  Just know that he is now without pain and suffering and with our Lord in Heaven.  I am so glad that we were able to see you both at the last class reunion last August.  It was fun visiting with both you and Jim.  Our Prayers and thoughts are with you at this time.

Dana, Shelly, Dale and Family,

Our love, prayers and fond memories of both you, Jim and Shelly in Jodi, Jeff and Shelly growing up.

It was so much to be with you snowmobiling at your cabin and the times we were together with 3M activities.

We were together when I got news about my Dad's passing at 3M banquet and even not living close, we always knew the friendship that we had with both of you.

God gives us His strength, courage for each new day and so happy you are close-by to your family now.  We are thinking of you, Dana with your health.

God be with you and love you.

Dana and Family, we send our love and condolences due to the loss of your loved one.  We were "raw" workampers....Jim and Dana gave us our first job.  We enjoyed our time with them and the workcamper family.  We became friends and have kept in touch ever since 1998.  Jim was a fun person to know and work with..he always had a smile and usually a pat on the back for us.  Bless you all as you continue thru life with the wonderful memories that he has left you.

We are so sorry for your loss.  Our prayers and thoughts are with you.  Jim was a great person and will be missed.

Shelly and family, my heart is with you.

My condolences to Dana and her family.  Jim looked good last August at the reunion and displayed no sorrow in his condition. Jim was a courageous and loving man, husband, father and friend.

Our sincere condolences to Dana and family.  When we met Jim and Dana about six years ago while wintering in Deer Creek RV and Golf Resort in Davenport, Florida, they were very active in the community.  Jim was "always the same" whenever we saw him and we were saddened to learn of his passing after a courageous battle with cancer.

We are so sorry about your dad?  We will keep you in our prayers and sending hugs to all of you??

Our heartfelt sympathy is with you Dana and all your family.  Jim was a good friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  We will cherish the many fond memories we have of happy times spent with him.  Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with you all.2

We are so very sorry to hear of Jim's passing.  Jim was truly one of the nicest guys around, so easy going and congenial.  We met Jim and Dana as Workampers at the St Cloud Campground, and working for them was one of our best Workamping gigs.  I remember that Jim liked Ole and Lena jokes.  We will remember Jim fondly, and will keep Dana and Shelly and family in our prayers and thoughts.  Rest in Peace, Jim, you were truly one of the good guys.

We are so sorry for your loss.  Jim was a great  guy and so much fun to be around.  There are never enough memories, but you have so many to reflect on. He always had good stories about his grandsons.   Be very proud of your grandfather, father and husband.  Blessings and strength to Dana and family.
