James H. Collins

The funeral service for James H. Collins will be at 11:00AM Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the River Park Chapel Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Nicklas Mezacapa officiating.  Visitation will be 4:00PM – 8:00PM Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the River Park Chapel Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday.  There will be an Elks Rest Ceremony conducted at the River Park Chapel Macken Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 6:00PM.  Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 92.

James H. Collins, 88 of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

Jim was born in Minneapolis, MN September 22, 1925. He attended Roosevelt High School. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on his 17th birthday. He spent 3 years in the South Pacific Theater in WWII, where he earned the rank of sergeant.

Jim married Lorraine Rakow on February 15, 1947 in Minneapolis. He worked for Coast-to-Coast stores in Minneapolis for 10 years. Jim joined IBM in 1956 as a customer engineer and retired from IBM in July 1987. He was a life member and past exalted ruler of Elks Lodge #1091, Rochester, MN. He was also a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Rochester, MN, a member of the Zumbro Eagles Aerie 2228 and the American Legion Post 92.  Jim was also proud to be part of the WWII Honor Flight #4 which took place on October 10, 2010.

Jim is survived by his son Bradley (Mary) of Mebane, NC, daughter Susan of Rochester, and sister Beverly (Arthur) of Crystal, MN.  He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine who died on January 16, 2006 and also his sister Patricia of Gleenwood, MN.

So sorry for your loss. I volunteered at the Elks Bar Bingo on the first Monday on the month with Jim. He was a joy to be around. May your many memories of Jim get you through these difficult days.
