James Arthur Bowron

James Arthur Bowron, age 90, of Rochester, died peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2021 at his home.

James Arthur was born February 28, 1931, in Rochester, MN, the son of Kathryn (Maloney) and Stillman John Bowron. Jim graduated from Lourdes High School in 1949. He was an Eagle Scout and later became a Boy Scout Leader. He entered the Air Force in November of 1950. Jim met and married the love of his life, Evelyn, while serving in the Air Force at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. After their service in 1954, they moved to Rochester and raised their 6 children. He was employed by the Mayo Clinic as a urology technician and LPN until his retirement. He was also employed by the Mayo Civic Auditorium as an usher and then as a head usher for over 30 thirty years.

One of his favorite pastimes was fishing, especially on the Mississippi River, Lake Kabotogama, Lake Mille Lacs, and the trout streams of southeastern Minnesota. Jim also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, gardening, and traveling with his family.

He also belonged to the Elk’s Lodge of Rochester and enjoyed all of the Elk’s activities as a member and later as the Exalted Ruler.

Jim was very proud of his children and grandchildren and attended many of their sporting events and activities over the many years. He made it a priority to support his family and give all of them encouragement.

He had a very positive attitude about life and enjoyed each day he was given. He received excellent care from the Mayo Palliative Care Clinic and Seasons Hospice in the last several years of his life. He was everyone’s favorite patient.

He is survived by his children: Paula (Kent) Goschke of Edgewood, KY, Dennis (Claire) Bowron of Connecticut, Steven (Jody) Bowron of Albert Lea, MN, Brian (Paula) Bowron of Lexington, KY, Vickie (Dennis) Jarosz of Peachtree City, GA,  and Geri (Jeff) Crawford of Belton, SC; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings: Robert (Joan), Patrick (Lois), Joyce Jones, and Tess Bowron; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; brothers, Jack and Mike; sister, Judy; sister-in-law, Marlene; son-in-law, Danny Shaffer; and grandchildren: Kyle Goschke, Victor Dennis Jarosz and Baby Schmidt.

The funeral service for Jim will be Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11:00AM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. James Berning officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.
