Isabelle J. Gorr
Isabelle (Jan) Gorr, 90, passed peacefully on June 11 from congestive heart failure.
She was born September 28, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Stela Biel and Walter Janus. She married Gordon Fredrick Gorr on April 30, 1955.
She became a medical secretary in her early adult life, and sang in a big band in her free time. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the American Veterinary Medical Association in Schaumburg, IL, until her retirement at age 71.
Her interests were many. She loved to dance, ice skate, garden, and cruise in her Firebird, until her age allowed. In her retirement, she learned to oil paint, creating many landscapes and still lifes. Travel was also a great passion of hers, taking her across Europe, throughout the United States, and to many other countries. She spread the joy of her travels, retelling these adventures to her children and grandchildren.
She loved people and life and was a friend to many. Her precious poodle, Buffy, brought her much joy as her constant companion over the last 12 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Stela Biel and Walter Janus, and her husband, Gordon F. Gorr. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Semlow and Karen Lee; five grandchildren, Daniel Semlow, Kathryn Semlow, Andrea Semlow, Nicholas Lee, and Ryan Lee; and two great-grandchildren, Mallory Semlow and Adam Semlow.
The funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection on Thursday, June 16th at 11 AM with the Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
