Helen Louise Scherr

Helen Scherr, 93, passed away October 18, 2013 at the Stewartville Care Center where she has resided since 2006.

Helen Louise Clark was born October 1, 1920 in rural Rochester.  As a child, she moved with her family to Wisconsin.  There she grew up on farms, while attending one-room schools, and the Oshkosh High School for two years.  Returning to Minnesota, she was a 1939 graduate of Rochester High School.  In following years she was employed by Ellis Motor Co., NW Bell Telephone Co., and First National Bank.  On Sept. 26, 1945 she and Earl Scherr were married at the United Brethren Church in Rochester.  They farmed in the Marion area all their married life.  Mr. Scherr died February 19, 1985.  Mrs. Scherr worked at Crossroads Piggly Wiggly grocery store for 25 years.  She retired in 1989.  She enjoyed reading, needlework, and genealogy.

She is survived by four children; Mary (LeRoy) Higgins of Eyota, Bill Scherr of Rochester, Ed (Diana) Scherr of Marion and Sally (Lee) Fitzgerald of West Concord; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Dr. Paul K. McAlister Officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00PM – 8:00PM, Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Burial will be at the Marion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Marion Church of Christ or Salvation Army.
