Harold “Jerry” Thompson
Harold “Jerry” Thompson, 83, of Rochester, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 in Rochester, Minnesota.
Jerry was born January 18, 1935 in Cresco, Iowa to Harold and Harriet (Hoeldt) Thompson.
He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1953 and entered the Marines in November the same year. After the military, he married Jo Ann Kathryn Means on January 30, 1960. Together they had three children and settled in Preston, MN. Jo Ann passed away in 1999.
Jerry married Stella Groth (Mayor) on September 7, 2002. They resided in Rochester and enjoyed square dancing, going to the YMCA and traveling. Jerry was an avid reader of Science Fiction and enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He was also a skilled carpenter for 40 years.
Jerry is survived by his wife; three children, Mike, Chris (Deb) and Debbie Thompson; and five step children, Paul (Ann), David (Roni), Neil, Deb (Joni) Groth and Sandy (Dave) Twaites; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Marty Thompson.
He is preceded in death by his first wife and his parents.
The funeral for Jerry will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 29 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Dwight LaPine officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Watson Creek Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota.
Memorials are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church in Rochester, Minnesota.

When I worked as a cashier at HyVee Barlow when we had the old restaurant Jerry and his friends would gather and visit drinking coffee 1time a week. Jerry was always nice and friendly.
