Geraldine Mae Amstutz

Geraldine Amstutz, age 100, left this world on September 25, 2021 for her heavenly home to be with the Lord.

Geraldine was born in 1921 in Grabill, IN to Noah & Lillie Roth and grew up to become an accomplished pianist and artist.  After graduating as her high school valedictorian, she received her Associates degree from the Ft. Wayne Bible College.

She married the love of her life, Rev. Tillman Amstutz in May 1943.  She served alongside of him in churches across the Midwest and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage together.  Geraldine was a wonderful homemaker and a much loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Geraldine was well known for sending thousands of creative homemade cards to encourage family members, friends, and even people she had never met.  Best of all, she faithfully prayed for many every day.

Geraldine is survived by her children, Sonja Benz; Wendell (Gwen) Amstutz; Jerry (Julia) Amstutz; and Gwendolyn Amstutz.  She is further survived by her grandchildren, Kari Amstutz (Fred Breeggemann), Kalli (Dustin) Thompson, David Amstutz, Rebecca Amstutz (David Hersh); and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister and brother-in-law Maxine and Glen Head; son-in-law James Benz; granddaughter Jolyn Amstutz; and many other family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021 in the Timothy Chapel of Autumn Ridge Church, 3611 Salem Rd. SW, Rochester, MN.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th St. SE, Rochester, and again on Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Autumn Ridge.  In light of the pandemic, the family recommends that masks be worn.

In lieu of flowers, Geraldine asked that memorials be given to her sons ministries:  National Community Resource Center in Rochester and Autumn Life in Janesville, WI.

The family is very thankful for Geraldine’s friends at Realife Cooperative where she lived, her caregivers, and the staff of Seasons Hospice.

Gwen and Family - My sincere condolences in the loss of Geraldine.  I had the privilege of meeting her at Gwen's birthday party on Gonda 1.  What a delightful person!  Heaven has gained a true angel.

Although I never had the honor of meeting this dear soul in person,  I had the opportunity to chat with her on the phone through her daughter, Gwen.  And during my cancer journey 5 years ago, Geraldine made me a get well card almost weekly and sent to the office with Gwen to give to me.  It may seem like such a small thing but it meant the world to me and helped me through a very difficult time.  Rest in peace, Geraldine!

Gwen and family, you are in our thoughts and prayers.  Your Mother was a wonderful woman, I know she has left her gracious imprint on all of you. Take care, Cheryl and Peter Weisbrod
