Geraldine “Gerry” Wittenberger
At the age of 93, our Mother, Gerry Wittenberger, reunited with our Dad, Emery, in Heaven. She left this world on September 13, 2018, surrounded by her family and her dog, Maddy.
Mom was born May 18, 1925 in Fond du Lac, WI, to Peter and Clara Turzenski. She grew up in Milwaukee and Prentice, WI. She attended St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. She was in the Cadet Nursing Corps while in training and had wonderful memories of that time period.
Mom and Dad married on November 15, 1947. In 1957, the family moved to Rochester. Dad was an upholsterer and Mom worked at St. Mary’s Hospital. They raised their seven children instilling hard work, Catholic faith, family and much love.
She LOVED being a Nurse especially working in Obstetrics. She retired in 1987. After retiring, Mom volunteered at Woodside Nursing Home, Channel One and Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church; a member of the St. Anthony Rosary Group. Mom loved to knit throughout her life. She created many items for her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a wonderful baker and always had fresh baked goods for anyone who came to her home. Her Christmas cookies will be missed. She enjoyed the season of Fall but “not what comes next”. Mom lived independently until age 90 when she moved in with her daughter Jane, her husband Dan and grandson Alec. Soon after she moved in “her dog” Maddy arrived. Mom and Maddy had a connection that was beautiful.
Seasons Hospice made it possible for Mom to remain living in Jane and Dan’s home until her passing. They were true angels on earth to Mom and the family. She enjoyed each person she was visited by.
Mom is now reunited with Emery; two sons, Peter and Tom; grandson, Brian; her parents and brother, Bob; and so many other loved ones.
She will be deeply missed by her five remaining children, Mary (Al) Henderson, Ann (Ron) Oblizajek, John (Judy) Wittenberger, Jane (Dan) Gilbertson all of Rochester, and Amy Brooks-Tucker (Bill Phillips) of Pine Island; and her sister, Bev Dahlmann and family of Indiana. She leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will remember her fondly as “Grandma Great”.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. James Seitz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Gerry was my cousin and I always looked forward to hearing from her at Christmas. She was a beautiful lady.
My deepest sympathy to all the members of the Wittenberger family blessed to have had their start in life through the love of Gerry and Emery Wittenberger. Although we are now distant in time and place, I still recall those many Christmases spent at the house on Marshall Avenue in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, as well as Aunt Gerry’s Christmas letters which always expressed deep love and appreciation for her family and her faith. May all of you find peace and comfort at this time of her passing on to Life Eternal.

I had the honor of knowing Gerry most of my life. From the teenage years working with Mary at Howard Johnsons and introducing Mary to my brother Al. Gerry accepted all of us with love. Gerry was with me when I delivered my first baby. Her strength helped me through it all. She always greeted me with a big smile and I will miss that most. May God bless you all.
My deepest sympathy,
Linda Henderson Overton
