Gerald Wallace Roney, 77, of Kasson, MN, died Monday, March 17, 2025, at home.
Jerry was born on May 17, 1947, in Decorah, IA to Wallace and Elva Roney. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Rochester, MN in 1965. On January 28, 1967, he married Linda Egge at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN. The couple lived in Rochester, Golden Valley, Hopkins, and Young America before settling in Byron, MN to raise their family. They then moved to Kasson, MN. Jerry worked as a master electrician at Foster Electric and finished his career at IBM until his retirement. My condolences to Jerry's family. I worked with Jerry for many years at IBM and Fluor. I learned a lot from "Roney" over the years and he was great fun to work with. We worked a lot of long hours years ago on shutdowns and outages at the IBM plant in Rochester. Roney always made the long hours more enjoyable.
I met Jerry while working at Piggly Wiggly when we were in high school. He was the king of the produce department. We hung out after work and made a few memorable road trips. The details shall remain redacted. We also often ran into each other in the halls of IBM. Great guy, I remember him fondly.
I worked with Jerry at both IBM and Fluor. He was one hell of a great guy. Smart, but didn't act like he was better than you.
I learned the hard way that you don't try to turn a fire hose against him. Did I ever get wet! He'll be missed.
