Gerald “Jerry” Lacher

With sadness, we announce that Gerald “Jerry” J. Lacher died on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the age of 88. Jerry died peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his family. He had been in declining health for many years.

Jerry was born on September 6, 1935 in St. Cloud, MN. He graduated from Tech High School in St. Cloud and served in the Army from 1955-1957. On August 17, 1957, he married the love of his life, Mary Hormann, in St. Cloud. They were married for 66 blessed years. Jerry worked for Piggly Wiggly grocery stores for 27 years. He then worked for St. Marys Hospital/Mayo Clinic in payroll and benefits until he retired in 1994.

Jerry loved fishing, nature, babies, and sweets of all kinds. More than anything else, he loved his family fiercely. He derived great joy and pride from being father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his four daughters, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was a voracious reader, a fastidious gardener, and a wicked 500 player. He was also a deeply spiritual and faith-filled man. We have such wonderful memories of time spent at the lake, playing games, and sharing great family meals.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents Fred and Gen Lacher, siblings Rita (Norb), Bob, and Howard. He is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Joan (Dan), Kathy (Jim), Linda (Gene), and Ann (Dennis), grandchildren Stephanie (Nate), Sara (Chris), Claire (Josh), Paul, Anne, Emma, Mathias, John, and Naomi, and great grandchildren Macey and Adelynn. He is also survived by his sister Deborah (Ed), sisters-in-law Kaye and Karen, and brother Ken (Bettie). In 1986, Ken lovingly donated a kidney to Jerry, a gift that gave us all 37 more years with him. Jerry is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jerry’s funeral will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 10:30 AM with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Arrangements through Macken Funeral Home. Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com

Condolences

The family of Gerald “Jerry” Lacher has received the following condolences.

Uncle Jerry was always the quieter uncle with the big smile. Remember him giving us a big box of cherries whenever we came to visit. For a young kid “Piggly Wiggly” always made us giggle, don’t ask me why. My sympathies to Aunt Mary, Joan, Kathy, Linda & Ann. Those summer days at Grandma & Grandpa Lasher’s seem so far away yet just yesterday. Remember them all, and all of you, with great love.

So sorry for your loss.  Such a nice man and such a nice couple

Mary and family. You have my deepest sympathy for the loss of Jerry and are in my thoughts and prayers. I met Mary and Jerry at water aerobics at the DAHLC. Jerry's experience and strength were very helpful when my wife had a kidney transplant. I am very grateful for his friendship and counsel.Rest in peace Jerry.

Mary and family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Jerry was a wonderful and caring individual. I have so many great memories of him. He loved you all very much and was very proud of you. He was honest, caring and had a great sense of humor. I will never forget the times spent with him at work or playing golf. He always had a great smile and a contagious laugh.

He will be missed.

Mary, Ann and family,

Sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. For years he and your family were mainstays of our family business,  and more than customers we considered you friends. Jerry and I often joked about our Marys, and how we would be in trouble without them! Our condolences to you and thoughts and prayers.....

I had the pleasure of knowing Gerry when he was in payroll at St Marys and I was in nursing supervision. A delightful man I am sure is resting in peace.

Dear Mrs.Lacher, Joan and family,
