Genevieve Helen Sursely, 90 of Rochester, died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at St. Marys Hospital.

Genevieve Carrick was born December 31, 1922 on the family farm near Clarissa Minnesota.  She married Edward Sursely on February 13, 1945 at New Poet News, Virginia. Ed owned the Crossroads Barber Shop Rochester. He passed away april 23, 1996. Genevieve and Ed were owners of the Galley Restaurant in Lake City, which they later sold in the 1990’s.

She enjoyed playing 500 card games with the residents at REALIFE, bingo and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Family was very important to her. Genevieve was always the loving and caring mother to her children and grandchildren.  She loved to cook and was always happy watching others enjoy her meals.  The memories of her quiet strength and gentle beauty will sustain those left behind.

She is survived by four children; Sandy (Dave) Gordon of Gig Harbor, WA, Jim (Jeannie) Sursely of Apopka, FL, Diana (Ron) Hollihan of Rochester and Richard (Michele) Sursely of Rochester; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Carol (Shirley) Carrick of Clarissa, one sister, Mary Stephan of Pleasant Hill CA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, three sisters and a granddaughter.

Memorials are suggested to REALIFE Cooperative, 825 Essex Parkway NW, Rochester, MN 55901.

Condolences

The family of Genevieve Helen Sursely has received the following condolences.

Dick, Michelle, and family,

We are so sorry for the loss of your mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother. Please know that we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!

Karen & Jon

Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of Genevieve.

When our father was sick with dementia and alltimers it was Genevieve who remembered Jack and myself

and made several calls to check up on us and offer advice and support.

As we know she was very caring and unselfish individual.

I mostly enjoyed the stories Geniveve wopuld tell about her days out east and some family history.

A person with a great sense of humor and good in social environments.

I am especially happy that we were able to see her and the family at her recent birhtday party.

Love to all and sorry about the loss.

Allen Carrick

Condolences Dick and family on the passing of your mother.  May she rest in pece.

So sorry to hear of her passing.  Seeing her name brought me back to my days of working at the Galley.  Her and Ed taught me alot and they were great people to work for.

Condolences on the passing of your mother.  We were neighbors in NW Rochester in the 1950's.

Marilyn babysat for Jim and his sister and David played with Jim.  Dave had spoken with Jim in the

last year.

Again we are very sorry to hear of your mother's passing.

Dear Surselys All, I'm thinking of my friend Gen who was a good neighbor and friendly person around Realife.  May she rest in peace.  As stated in the obituary, she was a loving Mother whose family came first, it seemed, whether it was a graduation or wedding or some smaller gathering. She would tell me about the salad or fruit bowl she was preparing. Let your happy memories come forth as you go through the grieving.  I will send my memorial gift to Realife. With prayers, lovingly Jane Dowd.
