Gene E. Burt

Gene E. Burt, 60, of Rochester, MN, died Sunday, March 6, 2022 at St. Marys Hospital.

Gene was born September 4, 1961 in Rochester, MN to Everett and Delphine (Remold) Burt. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1979.

As a child, Gene participated in 4-H and showed pigs at the local county fair. He enjoyed going to farm auctions with his father and loved caring for his many German Shepherds.  He spent numerous hours playing with his own John Deere machinery as his mother would be in the kitchen. It was during his childhood when he developed his love of dirt bikes. Gene and his father purchased a dirt bike on Mother’s Day weekend and also bought his mother a toaster so she wouldn’t feel forgotten.

As an adult, you could find him in his Chevelle SS. He spent time playing darts, participating in pool and softball tournaments. He enjoyed going on snowmobile trips with the “boys.” He liked Michelob Golden Light. His go to restaurants were Sandy Point and Fisherman’s Inn. Gene had a sweet tooth, he absolutely loved anything and everything chocolate, especially Hershey bars with almonds.

Gene loved his son, Brad. Brad and Gene had many special memories together. Gene was the manager for Brad’s dirt biking days. The two of them shared a special bond; they spent countless hours on the tractors and driving Gene’s truck routes.

He is survived by his son, Bradly Burt of Rochester, MN; sister, Nancy (Dan Hunter) Jensen of Plainview, MN; brother, Paul (LeAne) Burt of Rochester, MN; three nieces, Tara (Nick) Hough, Kayla Jensen and Mali Jensen; a step niece, Mercedes Nelson; and two nephews, Adler and Everett Burt.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and most recently, his godparents, Howard and Alice Riess; and their son, Carl Riess.

Gene had a special relationship with his nephews, Adler and Everett. They enjoyed playing nerf guns together; the boys would use the automatic nerf guns while Gene was always given the pump action nerf gun. The three of them would spend many a day playing basketball and catch.

There will be a celebration of life held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.

Condolences

The family of Gene E. Burt has received the following condolences.

Sorry for your loss! Praying for strength for the family with losing two loved ones within a short period of time!

Gene, did we ever have some fun times. I remember playing Barbies on the living room floor and you played with your farm tractors and all the accessories. Mom would let us keep toys set up for a few days to enjoy.
You have to realize neighbors at that time were far and few between.
Another fond memory was when Gene and I were riding dirt bikes and we were riding in a ditch until the sherif stopped us. We were placed in the sherif car and he drove us home.
Boy were we ever scared …. we were going to be in trouble with dad. The sherif drove up the driveway and started talking to our dad and finally said, I have a couple of fugitives in the back seat and they are probably pretty warm inside, you better let them out.  There was a lessen learned there on that day.
Finally, I can’t remember why but one time Gene was mad at me and broke my ukulele.
I was crushed, I really thought I was good at playing that instrument…. fast forward, one year mom and Paul surprised me with a new ukulele.  Gene, thanks for the memories and all your love.
Rest In Peace Gene

love Nancy

I remember that dirt bike! Tiger and Gene were so excited and wanted the neighbors to come and see it. Gene was running a track through the pasture and up and over the hill where new house is now. Gene decided he wanted to give rides-only took a minute for his parents and my husband to decide to sacrifice me! We managed a few go rounds without tipping over. When he finally let me off, Gene told me that I maybe could ride a horse, but that I needed to practice balance before I could take his dirt bike!

All my sympathy to everyone. I am so sorry for your loss  Terry Leary

My condolences to the family of Gene..  I went to high school with him and was in FFA with him!  Lots of good memories.

May you all find peace knowing he is at peace.  Prayers to you all!
