Garald “Jerry” M. Goodman

Garald Milvin Goodman, known to many as “Jerry” or “Punk”, born October 27, 1940 in Rochester, MN has entered God’s home on February 20, 2019 after he passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and children.

Jerry married Julie Ann Preuschl August 1, 1961 in Algona, IA and then made their home in Rochester, MN. Jerry suffered a stroke March of 2009 and then was diagnosed with lung cancer in July of 2017. He demonstrated courage, strength in the face of adversity, and was always so thankful for all those that helped him!

Jerry was a dedicated auto mechanic working at Universal Ford and Toyota for many years until he retired in 2003. Jerry loved spending time with his family and instilled strong family values to all of his children and grandchildren. His hobbies throughout the years consisted of horseback riding, snowmobiling, camping, boating, and humor. You could always rely on him to lighten the mood with a good wisecrack or one liner. For years he enjoyed showing horses at the South Eastern Minnesota Saddle Club Association (SEMSCA) horse shows and then later trail riding with the Wednesday Riders, a group of avid horsemen and women who shared his passion for horses. Jerry also enjoyed football season and watching his favorite team, the MN Vikings.

He is survived by the love of his life, Julie Goodman; four children, Mike (Marci) Goodman, Michelle (Tom) Michelson, Sharon (Jon) Johnson, and Nancy (Heidi) Goodman; six grandchildren, Nick (Sara) Goodman, Anthony Wiesner, Spencer (Amanda) Goodman, Cara Michelson, Gavin Wiesner and Osmond (Karli) Goodman; five step grandchildren, Kathy Mulhern, Julie (Shane) Rindels, Andie (Quincy) Grabau, Michael (Margaret) Johnson, Sarah (Derek) Holtegaard; four great-grandchildren, Evan, Ellie, Abilene and Henry; and 14 step great-grandchildren, Brayden Rindels, Riley Mulhern, Bryce Rindels, Emma Mulhern, Bryant Rindels, Owen Grabau, Cooper Holtegaard, Decker Grabau, Sawyer Johnson, Chase Grabau, Levi Johnson, Griffin Holtegaard, Claira Johnson, Remy Grabau. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, and brother.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Urshila Durani of Mayo Clinic, Lexie Biederman, and Seasons Hospice for all their caring support and assistance throughout Jerry’s fight with lung cancer.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Shawn Haremza officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Julie and Family,

My sincere condolences to you. Punk was indeed a great man. My prayers and thoughts have been with you.

I am so sorry I did not make it up today for the Funeral. We got to the Minnesota border and decided to turn around. Way too icy and too many crazy drivers.

I know and understand your loss. Just look back at the good memories we have of him. Punk was always there for me to help to keep my Volkswagens running.

Those memories will always be with me.

God Bless
