Gail Therese Smith, 68 of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly at St. Mary’s Hospital on October 31, 2017.
Gail Therese Gerwitz was born on June 16, 1949 in Germany, while her father was on military duty. She graduated from Frankfurt American High School in Germany in 1967. Following graduation she attended San Jose State University in San Jose California, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1972. On October 21, 1972 she married Gary Neal Smith at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Santa Clara, CA. In 2005, the couple moved to Rochester where she worked for a time at Home Design Studios. Gail was a devout Catholic who was an accomplished quilter, enjoyed playing Bridge, and especially liked traveling with her husband Gary.
She is survived by her husband Gary, her daughter Rachel Smith and grandson Noah of Rochester, her sisters Celeste of Lake City, MN, Merridy (Dino) Pomponio of New City, NY, her brother Gregory (Judy) Gerwitz of Mechanicsburgh, NY, her twin brother Glenn (Carol) Gerwitz of San Jose, CA and her sister-in-law Nancy Lynn of Macon, GA.
She is preceded in death by her brother-in-law Jerry Roper and her parents Ralph and Marjorie Gerwitz.
The Memorial Mass for Gail will be at 10:30AM on Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester with Father Russell Scepaniak officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 5:00pm on Sunday, November 5, 2017 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Mass on Monday at the church.
