Emily Lauren Porcher

Emily Lauren Porcher was born an old soul on June 22, 1987, on her mother’s 30th birthday.  And perhaps due to having an old soul she was able to finish her work on this earth early and unexpectedly returned to her heavenly home on Friday July 23, 2021, at the age of 34.

Emily was born in St. Paul Minnesota, the middle child of 3, to Eric and Julie Porcher (Cliff).  She was baptized into the church family of St. Timothy Lutheran Church and spent her early years in St. Paul until she moved with her family to the Rochester area in 1999. She attended and graduated from Dover-Eyota High School in 2006. She went on to Rochester Community and Technical College completing a Clinical Administrative Assistant degree and taking a position as a Clerical Assistant in a GI research lab at the Mayo Clinic in the Fall of 2008.

We all get dealt a hand to play in this life and Emily drew a tough one.  A diagnosis of a deadly brain tumor at the tender age of 2 and a half years did not bode well.  Given the prognosis of a 25% chance to live 5 more years Emily really beat the odds. Due to the tumor and the ensuing medical interventions she attained the towering stature of 4 foot 6 inches and compensated for that with a fierce spirit.

She was able to take 2 trips to Europe. One to the Holy Land and another to Germany. She jumped out of a plane skydiving back to earth, went bungee jumping and attended many a live music concert following her favorite bands.

Her passion in life was music and spending time laughing with friends.  She sang in her church choir, played the violin in the church orchestra and listened to music all the hours of the day that she could.

Although she was receiving medical care for a number of health issues Emily shocked and surprised us all one more time with her suspected cause of death being a heart attack, which was not on anyone’s radar.  After all she was only 34.

She leaves behind her parents, older brother Logan Porcher and younger sister Samantha Porcher all of Rochester and many aunts, uncles and cousins she loved dearly.

The funeral for Emily will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Jason Burggraff officiating. Burial will be at the Bethel columbarium.  Visitation will be Sunday August 1, 2021 from 4-7pm at the Macken Funeral home in the River Park Chapel and one hour prior to the service at Bethel Church on Monday.

Emily was a bright spot in many of our lives.  To honor the light she brought to us please leave your typical funeral finery in the closet and wear the bright colors of summer and we will celebrate her life as though we were going to a picnic.

Memorials will be given to the promotion of young musicians. Avenues of giving are yet to be determined but we will provide scholarships to youth who may not otherwise be able to attend band or choir camps, or purchase a musical instrument and the like.

Condolences

The family of Emily Lauren Porcher has received the following condolences.

I was fortunate to know Emily through the Bethel choir.  She was typically upbeat and always planning when she would attend the next concert! We will miss her. My condolences to her family in losing this bright light so early.

Hello Porcher Family,

Emily and I worked together at Mayo Clinic over the past year. Whenever she and I talked, I always walked away feeling better. She taught me a lot about acceptance and living life to its fullest. I am sad to know that she is no longer on this earth.

With deepest sympathies,

Lori Casey

Julie and family,

To you all - I am so sorry for your loss.  I can recall Emily's voice, her grin and sparkling eyes, and her positive attitude so easily.  She was a force of nature and thinking of her brings a smile to me.  Be gentle with yourselves.  Hugs. Cara

I am so sorry to hear about Emily.  I worked with Julie for a few years and heard all about Emily.  She had such a bright personality and achieved more than was thought by others.  I know she is at peace and will continue to be the bright and thoughtful person that she was here on Earth.  God bless her family.

It is with a heavy heart but total submission to the will of God, I wrote this message. May her soul rest in peace and gives the family and the loves one the fortitude to bear her loss.

I have been reflecting of my times talking with Emily. She was a talker. Wasn’t afraid to come and start a conversation up with you. Always greeting you when she saw you. Her Smile. Her joy of life.
May Emily’s Memories continue to grow within her family and friends.

Dear Julie, Eric and family,

I’m very sorry for your loss of your beloved Emily.

I could not believe it when I heard. I had seen her a few times as I was entering the Mayo Clinic for my appointments.

I wish I had the words or word that would bring you comfort in this difficult time but just know you have plenty of love and support from your friends.

Bruce Mickow ?

Dear Eric and Julie and Family; We are heartbroken on the news of your family losing Julie. We are praying for all of you through these next difficult days. Samantha and Brady shared with us that she had some very difficult health issues,  She sure did so much to enjoy her life even though all the difficulties.  We will be thinking of you and hoping that the joy of all the great memories will overtake all of the sadness. Peace to all of you and hugs to help you through.  Warmly, Brady's Mom and Dad.

So sorry to hear about your loss Eric! I can imagine how incredibly helpless this must feel for a parent to lose a daughter. Glad she was able to accomplish so much with her limited time on this earth. I hope you and your family will be able to find comfort in this.

Take care!

I worked with Emily for a short while at Mayo Clinic.  I  enjoyed getting to know her while working with her.  I would like to say to her family that she will be missed.

We are so saddened at the loss of our dear friend Emily. The strength of her spirit has been an inspiration to us through some difficult times. We have all been blessed by her courage to not be defined by her health issues. Our love to her soul which is now in the arms of Jesus, the Christ whom she loved. And our tears and prayers are with the Porcher family and the many friends who will miss her earthly presence. Take comfort in Emily's courage. And may God give you peace.

With our love,
Henry and Carol
