Elva was a retired 30+ year Montgomery Wards employee. She enjoyed being in her own home up until a month ago. Elva loved sitting on her deck on warm days and spent many hours on her computer Skyping with, and on her phone talking to, her sons and grandchildren that lived in Arizona and Nevada. She also was a loyal late-night Facebook friend to many family and friends. Another activity that she really enjoyed was crocheting baby blankets for newborns as part of the “Bundles of Love” project.

Survivors include four sons, Jerry (Linda) of Kasson, Allan (Karen) of Florence, AZ, Dale of Bullhead City, AZ and Kevin (Judy) of Rochester; six grandchildren, Brian Roney, Julie (Jay) Hoff, Sarah Roney, Dane (Mariah) Roney, Spencer Wentworth and Zabrina Roney; two great-grandchildren, AJ Hoff and Hannah Hoff; and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Wangsness of Decorah, IA.

AND OUR FAMILIES......

I met Elva through Meals on Wheels, mowing her lawn and shoveling for the past 3 years.  She was always upbeat and was constantly crocheting her afghans for Bundles of Love.  Whenever I finished mowing or shoveling, she would always offer a snack of some sort.  It was a pleasure to serve her and I always tried to give her a hug before I left.

I'm sorry I won't be at the service as I will be out of town at some training.

She now has her angel wings in Heaven.

Dearest Great Aunt Elva:

You were so loved and will be so missed. Thank you for being so good to my Grandpa, Lloyd Roney. At least now you will be reunited with him and the love of your life, Uncle Wally.

Deepest heartfelt condolences to your boys, Jerry, Dale, Allan and Kevin.

Edit my message as follows: “Vivian’s” should say visits, “Merry” should say My, “life vest” should say lives. Did spell check but autocorrect got me.

Great Aunt Elva was such a fun and loving part of our lives. Uncle Wally was my grandma, Elsie Yarwood’s little brother, and my parents were close to them my whole life. We had many Vivian’s both in Decorah and Rochester. They were my brother Roger’s baptismal sponsors. We enjoyed many camping weekends with them, Aunt Elva was always fun to be with. Merry husband Rick and I have a beautiful afghan she crocheted for us as a wedding gift. I will always treasure it. We feel so blessed to have had her in our lives.

Sympathy to all of you who have lost your mom and grandma. Your life vest will seem empty for awhile, but your hearts never will be. Her love will always be with you. Rick and I plan to attend the burial on Saturday.
