A Memorial Mass for Elizabeth “Liz” Helene Yochum will be 11:00AM Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester officiated by Rev. Kevin Connolly. Visitation will be held 5:00pm – 8:00pm Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Liz was born in Rochester, MN, on April 6, 1953 to W. Wayne Ellison and Kathryn (Canfield) Ellison. She died at home on Saturday, August 11th, after a heroic eleven year battle with cancer.
She was a 1971 graduate of Lourdes High School. She retired from the Rochester Senior Center after 28 years as director of the dining program. She dearly loved her job, however illness forced her retirement in 2008.
Liz is survived by her husband of 23 years, Michael Yochum, her mother, Kathryn (Ellison) Van Cuyk, her sons Andrew “Drew” (Randi) Nickelsen, Adam (Jayme) Nickelsen, her stepdaughters, Sarah Fox of Miamisburg, OH and Rachel Yochum of Tulsa, OK, her brother John (Diane) Ellison, her sister Judy (Chris) Canney, and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Ellison.
Liz was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, animal lover and she loved to cook. She was a volunteer for Paws and Claws.
She was very proud to have been a recipient of The Healing Waters Project; a beautiful fountain dedicated to her courage.

Mike, There goes the saying again"only the good die young." We worked with Lizzie for the Eagles pancake breakfast for 4 yrs & can't tell you how much respect we have for her. She definitely was a fighter that loved her family deeply.
Oh & yes we are the green bay packer friends that she said she would forgive us for that.
I'll still always remember her.
Good luck Mike. Stay strong.
Judy and all of Liz's family members; I am so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful, caring lady. She will be deeply missed. My prayers are with you all.

Mike,
I'm sorry for the loss of Liz. During the short time that I knew her, she was a courageous and strong woman, yet still very witty and quick on her toes (and put me in my place a few times)!!! At least you've got your girls there and close family and friends to help you get through this trying time. You've been the rock supporting and helping her during this time and she couldn't have asked for anyone better. We both know that she'll be missed by plenty of people.
Keeping you guys in my thoughts,
Travis
thanks for all the memories through grade school and high school Liz! Your free of pain now, enjoy it forever.
Mike

So very sorry, Liz was passionate about her beliefs and fought for the under dog. My Mom had great respect and regard for the work Liz did for the seniors at the center and at Central Towers. Good bye dear friend.
I had the pleasure of working with Liz at the Rochester Senior Center. She was a kind and wonderful person and her courage in fighting her disease was admirable. She will be missed.
My deepest sympathy to Liz's family. May your many memories help heal the pain of losing this special person.
TO Liz's family....my sincere sympathy and prayers for all of you!
Liz and I graduated together and she was always very kind to me.
RIP,
Mary
