The Funeral Mass for Elizabeth L. (Libby) Kane Quirin will be at 2:00PM Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester with the Rev. John Lasuba officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Elizabeth L. (Libby) Kane Quirin was born to Irish immigrant parents Michael Francis and Catherine Mary Kane in Rochester, Minnesota June 15th 1927. She passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, October 8, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.
Libby volunteered her time generously at various organizations. She enjoyed working with the mentally and physically challenged. She later went on to work and retire from St. Mary’s Hospital. Being one of the original “Hockey Moms”, she helped raise funding for the first Graham Arena. For such a small woman, her voice carried through the crowd while cheering on her children, nephews and grandchildren. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, dancing, camping and a good road trip.
She is preceded in death by her sons, Michael and Patrick, great-grand-son Jacob, and her siblings: Anastasia, Mary, James, Margaret, Theresa, Joseph and Kathleen Kane. She is survived by her children Don (Gail) Quirin, Sandra (Kelly) Quirin, Mark (Ellen) Quirin, Terry (Colleen) Quirin, Sheila Keller, Susan Q. Allhiser, Sherry (Mark) Holmes, Sonja Quirin. Her grandchildren Anne, Maggie, Michael, Danny, James, Breanna, Jamie, Katie, Eric and Sara. Great Grandchildren Taylor, Devin, Dominic, Tyler, Allie and Mackenzie.
The Quirin family extends a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Sunrise Cottages of Rochester and Ivan Berg.
A visitation will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday.

Condolences
The family of Elizabeth L. (Libby) Kane Quirin has received the following condolences.
Susan and Sonja--I take great comfort knowing that Libby was looking into the eyes of two of her children who cared for her with the greatest of love as she past through this world. Her journey has not been an easy one, but we all know that Heaven gained a special angel the day Libby went home. Your Mom was an amazing woman with a heart that was golden! She will be remembered by all who had the good fortune to call her their friend. She is forever in my heart! Love, Kathy
Hello Sonja and Sue,
My thoughts are with you both during this time of the loss of your Mother. I know your Mother's illness has been a very long and difficult journey for you both and now she is at peace and you both are free to move forward in your lives. My thoughts are with you both.
Sincerely,
Mary Linnihan
Libby was amazing. I don't think she realized how beautiful she was, how many lives she touched or the many people who loved her as we did. She gave of herself and asked for nothing. She is my hero.
I wanted to extend my condolences to the Quirin family. It's been a number of years since I've seen any of you, especially Sue and my thoughts are with you dealing with the passing of your Mother.

To the family of Libby Quirin,
I just wanted to let you know what a beautiful funeral service you had for your mom. The songs that you chose had special meaning and brought tears to my eyes. I was glad I had a chance to visit with you and meet Libby's grandchildren. How blessed she was to have such a caring family. I thank God that Libby was brought into my life as a co-worker and most importantly a friend. I will always cherish the wonderful memories I had with her. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time.
I will always love you Libby, my sweet, precious friend.
Sincerely, Shelly Christopherson
Libby was the kind of backyard neighbor everyone would have wanted to have growing up. She was always kind enough to cook large pans of sweet rolls for me and my siblings growing up. I spent many summer days playing on her hill, sledding in the winter, and picking apples from her crab apple tree. I played with her dog and helped her garden. I am sorry for your loss.
I will miss a wounderful women she was a second mother to me i was the Quirin's foster child. The Quirn was a second home which i had so much fun and camping trips which i would run a way "omg go get her" lol. Libby would always tell the kids . I will keep those close to my hart
Sophie,

I always remember Aunt Libby cooking away and making some of her famous pies. She always had a kind word to say and everyone was always made to feel welcome in her home.
God Bless you Libby and may you rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to all my Quirin cousins.

To all the Quirin's,
I just learned of Libby's passing. My heart felt condolences to you all. Libby was a very special person and brought happiness to many people. I have many fond memories growing up and spending time at the "Quirin's". One particular memory that sticks in my mind is how your home always smelled of fresh baked buns!
God Bless.
Mary
Hello to all of the Quirin's. Betty sent me the obit and it really made me go down memory lane with your mom and many of you. Especially Susan and Terri. I have a lot of great stories about your mom and grandma from spending time at your house. Your mom was amazing and I look back and am impressed with how hard she worked and how we didn't always make it easy for her and she always let me back into the house!!!!!! Even more suprising was that neil and I were both let in. Although, she was well aware of the crazy nutty irish personalities we all brought in the door. I will have great thougths today about all of you and your mom.

I remember Libby as someone who put her children and everyone else first. One of my fondest memories was meeting her for coffee breaks while she worked at St. Marys and I had nursing clinicals. Our family conversations and her warm smile seemed to always ease the stress of my day.
Until our next coffee break.
Dear Quirin Family,
Please accept myy deepest condolences on the loss of your mother, grandmother and friend. I've missed you all over the years, as we all seemed to have gone our separate ways after high school. From as early on as I can remember, Libby was always a loving and caring mother. There was always room for one more at the Quirin supper table and I was lucky enough to be that one fairly often. She was an incredible woman to have almost single-handedly raised such a large, diverse family as you alll are. I will always admirer her for that. Though I have not seen Libby for at least 30 years, my memories of her and the entire Quirin family will always be with me.
I must RVSP my regrets for the wake and funeral, but please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. So long, Libby. Be free with God.
Love to All,
Charlie Brown -
