Eleanor Leona Herold

Eleanor Leona Herold, age 95, of Rochester, MN, died Monday, January 21, 2019 at her residence.

Eleanor was born February 2, 1923 in Nelson, WI, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Thoeny) Zirzow.  She was united in marriage to Russell Herold in Alma, WI on April 15, 1941. The couple lived and worked in Winona for several years until Russell’s death in 1965. Eleanor and her son, Ken then moved to Rochester where she worked in dietary and housekeeping at Methodist Hospital for many years, until her retirement.

Eleanor loved music, and played in the Kitchen Band. She also enjoyed gardening and people watching. Spending time with children and teaching Sunday School brought her joy. Eleanor also cared for adults in foster care, and was awarded the Adult Foster Parent of the Year in Olmsted County in 1979. Eleanor loved spending time and traveling with her son, Ken. She was a loving mother, and was proud of all of his achievements.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; sisters: Gertrude, Edna, Ella, Wilma, Evelyn, Mabel, and Delores; two brothers: Melvin and Oscar; brother-in-law, Donald Herold; and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her son, Ken, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Evangel United Methodist Church in Rochester, MN, with Rev. Mark Rader officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona, MN.
