Condolences
The family of Elaine “Rita” Engelbrecht has received the following condolences.
Hello Family of Rita Engelbrecht!! I am the Parish Nurse from Redeemer Lutheran church. I visited Rita at St Marys and followed up on her request for a prayer shawl and knitting needles at Plainview Rehab Center. I wondered how she was going to knit, but did believe that maybe knitting was part of her therapy.
The night that I visited her niece was with her and she was restless. Later she was readmitted to the hospital where I did attempt to visit her again. That day she was so sound asleep that I couldn't awaken her.
I pray that she is peaceful now and playing cards in heaven with Duke as one of God's angels. Peace to her entire family.
Janet Dicke, RN, Redeemer Lutheran Church
Our condolences to the family of Rita!
My sister was my heart and soul and my best friend. It breaks my heart to let her go. She was my guardian angel, ALWAYS there when I needed her whether I knew it or not. She was a truly beautiful and classy woman. She treated everybody with respect, kindness and love. A true heart of gold. Rita filled in all of my blanks and was always there for me to lean on my whole life.
When I was a child we didn't go to summer camp, we went to Duke & Rita's. That was the best camp ever, and I had it whenever I wanted.
Looking back on the months before her stroke we talked almost daily - as if she had a sense something was going to change. Those conversations are so much more cherished now.
Even up to the end she kept her wonderful sense of humor. What a blessed lady!
I am happy she is reunited with her high school sweet heart - her husband. They worked hard and played hard, and shared so many good things.
Rita will be missed and loved forever.
I worked with Rita, my supervisor, for 15 years. She was my supervisor but also a great friend. She introduced me to the golf game and I still golf. She game me my first pink golf ball when I got a 55 golfing. She was a great lady and friend.
I am so sorry to hear of Rita's passing. She was a very strong person to face all of her medical problems and still get back on her feet. She walked many miles with her dogs. I miss seeing her on the street. I live just one building away from her. I liked her a lot and will miss seeing her.
Rita was a big part of my early life at SMH and Mayo. We worked together on a number of software implementations. She was great to work with and was a very good mentor for a young computer guy. Rita organized a golf lesson for me with Duke. That was a event that I will never forget. I arrived at Willow Creek. Duke directed me to go purchase 3 beers. Drink one now and then another when we got to the practice green. The last beer was for the ride back to the club house. Best lesson I ever had. We have lost a great individual & friend, but heaven has gained one!
I am saddened to hear of Rita's passing. I had the privledge to work with her for a brief time at St Isidore's in Plainview. She was a lovely woman.
I am sorry for your loss.
