Elaine “Laney” Spading

Elaine “Laney” Spading, age 78, of Rochester, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Olmsted Community Hospital in Rochester.

Elaine Catherine Clark was born on March 18, 1932 in Rochester to Walter and Catherine Clark. She graduated from Lourdes High School in 1950. Following graduation, she worked for the Waters Conley Company, and in May of 1954, she married Merlin “Mike” Spading in Rochester.  Mike worked for IBM, and Laney raised the family, along with being an avid volunteer at her church and school.  Laney loved to go fishing, especially in northern Minnesota. Her and Mike enjoyed traveling together, especially to Florida to meet friends.  She loved children, and deeply cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Mike, of 56 years, a daughter, Susan Spading of Rochester, three sons, John (Karen) Spading of Rochester, Dennis (Jennifer) Spading of Maple Grove, Rodney (Laura) Spading of Rochester, grandchildren, Wendy (George) Caucutt of St. Paul, Dean and Jane Spading both of Rochester, Jack Spading of Maple Grove, and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Will Caucutt of St. Paul. She is preceded in death by a son, William, five brothers, and one sister.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, November 8, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Nelson Officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
