Eileen A. Dillehay

Eileen Annette Dillehay, 94, of Rochester, MN died peacefully on April 25, 2018 at Homestead Rehabilitation and Living Center in Rochester, Minnesota.

Eileen was born April 15, 1924 in St. Charles, MN to Fred and Frances (Palmer) Mayhew.

She graduated from Rochester High School and started working at the Mayo Clinic in Medical Records. On October 20, 1945, Eileen married John W. Dillehay in Rochester, MN. Eileen was a housewife, cub scout and girl scout leader, and worked as a Jefferson lunch lady for several years. She loved to travel and enjoyed her winters in Mesa, AZ after John’s retirement. Eileen was an accomplished sewer, knitter, crocheter, and known for her epic Christmas baking and apple pies, and holiday dinners. Her most treasured role in life was wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved with all her heart and always put her family first.

Eileen is survived by her children, Dr. Gary Dillehay of Chicago, IL, Janice (David) Healy of Fort Smith, AR; daughter-in-law, Kay Dillehay of Rochester; grandchildren, Kevin Dillehay of Rochester, MN, Jenna (Eric) Rogers of Goose Creek, SC, Lisa (Chris Hart) Dillehay of Rochester, MN, Dr. Melissa (Bryan) Smith of Charleston, SC, Michael Healy of Fort Smith, AR; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Alex Dillehay of Rochester, MN, and Emerson Rogers of Goose Creek, SC. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Dillehay; and son, Thomas Dillehay.

The family would like to thank Mayo Hospice and the staff at Homestead Rehabilitation and Living Center for their loving care of Eileen and the support they gave her and her family during Thomas’ passing and hers.

The family prefers memorials in Eileen’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Condolences

The family of Eileen A. Dillehay has received the following condolences.

Prayers and affection

To the family,

My deepest condolences on the loss of your loved one. Losing someone that means so much to you is very difficult, but please know that God is. There to comfort and sustain you at this very difficult time. (Psalms 34:18, 2 Corinthians 1:3,4) May you also continue to cherish the many memories you shared together as they too can be a source of comfort.

Condolences to the Dillehay family from the Williams family of 1636 11th Avenue and Thibodeau family of 1624. Our thoughts are with you, also on the recent loss of Tom as well. Eileen was a wonderful neighbor and always had a smile and a kind word. She showed great patience and affection for the local "rug rats", both in the neighborhood and at Jefferson. Eileen helped make our little neighborhood on 11th Avenue a little slice of Heaven to grow up in. She was a wonderful person who will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Eileen was one of those people who make the world a better place by her presence and her actions. Once again, condolences to the Dillehay family, but we hope your memories are happy ones of the wonderful person that Eileen was.
