Edwin James Anderson

Edwin (Ed) J. Anderson, 96 of Rochester passed away September 21, 2022 at Season’s Hospice House in Rochester, MN following a stroke on September 9th.

He was born October 31, 1925 in Minneapolis to Edwin and Veronica (Roster) Anderson. He grew up in Milwaukee, WI and Brownsville, MN. He later enlisted in the USMC in 1943. After his discharge, he returned to Milwaukee to support his mother and young brothers, Harry and Dwayne. A move to LaCrosse, WI then gave him a job at Trane Company as a draftsman. The move gave him the opportunity to live near Brownsville where he liked to hunt with his dogs in the Reno Bottoms.

In 1956, he married Dawn Vaughn and moved to the Twin Cities area where he stated his horse show hobby as announcer, ringmaster, and show management. The hobby kept him engaged 35-40 weekends a year at shows in many states. As a lifetime AQHA member, he was a judge, AQHA steward, and show manager for several horse organizations. Ed served as president of Tri-State Horsemen and Minnesota AQHA National Director which gave him Horsemen of the Year awards from the University of Minnesota Horse Council, Minnesota Quarter Horse Association, and the Minnesota State Fair.

In 1998, he retired from his job at Rupp Industries in Burnsville as National Sales Manager. Following his retirement, Ed and Dawn moved to Rochester with one horse, one dog, and a cat named “Bleu”.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn; four nephews, Mike of Milwaukee, WI, Steve (Laura) of Apollo Beach, FL, Robert (Kathy) of Alma, WI, and Mark (Lori) of Holmen, WI.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Beth Royalty officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in LaCrosse, WI.

Memorials are preferred to Season’s Hospice, Camp Companion, or the Disabled Veterans (DAV) in Cincinnati, Ohio.
