Dorothy Margaret Berg died Wednesday December 2, 2020, at Madonna Towers in Rochester.
Dorothy, the third of Eight children, was born on November 30, 1924, in Taopi, Minnesota to Edward and Sarah (Hueman) Winkels.
After graduation from Adams High School in 1943, Dorothy successfully achieved her RN degree at the Naeve School of Nursing in Albert Lea, Mn. She then began a long career as a registered nurse in Rochester. Dorothy worked early on as a nurse supervisor in the neurosurgery unit at St. Mary’s. Dorothy also worked at The Rochester State Hospital. Later in her nursing career, Dorothy was a private duty nurse at St. Mary’s. She was well regarded as a compassionate, competent caregiver.
In retirement from nursing, Dorothy remained active as an instructor in the Human services technician program at Rochester Career and Technical Education Center. Dorothy also volunteered in the court system as an advocate for child welfare.
Dorothy was very devout in her faith. She was a founding member of St. Pius X church, and was always present at the Saturday evening service.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Tim (Brenda) Berg; daughters Kristi (Robert) Olivera and Sara (George) Molstad; grandchildren, Marcus and Christian Olivera, George and Eleanor Berg; great grandchild, Harry Olivera; and siblings, Edward Winkels, Winifred Simon, and Agnes Inouye.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Verne; sisters, Juletta, Rita, and Helen; and husband, Vince.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 7, 2020 at St. Pius X Church in Rochester. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Season’s Hospice Rochester, or Benedictine Madonna Towers.
Condolences
The family of Dorothy Margaret Berg has received the following condolences.
Dear Family Members of Dorothy, I am so sorry to hear of Dorothy’s death. Dorothy was a “very faithful” member of our little Rosary Group at Madonna Towers and she LOVED going to Mass. She would be waiting “ready to go” when it was time on Sunday mornings. I hold a special place in my heart for Dorothy, and ask God to bless all of you family members with peace and many loving memories. Sister Sue Reif, OSF
Dear Tim and family,
I am sorry for the loss of your mother and grandmother. What a long and good life she lived.
I knew your Dad better than your Mom because of Hanny’s, but I have fond memories of your Mom from St. Pius and our neighborhood. I recall the walks and rides you and my brother Jim (I joined you a few times) would take to and from Silver Lake to go fishing, and your Mom’s smile and encouraging words at those times. I also remember her as a regular volunteer, joining my Mom and many others in the work of our parish
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of loss.
Dear berg Family,
We were so sorry to hear about your Mom. Will always remember her as one funny, classy, smart woman! It was an honor to know her, and your Dad, and please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Thinking of you at this time.
Lots of Memories of your Mother coming into Fashion Aire all those years. She knew my family from Adams.
