Dorothy L. Kurrash, 89, passed away on September 4, 2009 at Saint Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha, Minnesota.
Dorothy was born on April 27, 1920 to Ed and Agnes Capelle in Rochester, Minnesota . She had one Brother, Donald.
After graduation Dorothy taught in a one room school house in Rochester, Minnesota.
She married Robert “Bill” Kurrash of Big Lake, Minnesota on April 26, 1946, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They lived in Spokane, Washington before coming to Rochester in 1951. Dorothy and Bill had three children, Robert, Cheryl, and Karen. Her husband, Bill was a Minnesota Department of Transportation Highway Employee for 26 years, until his death on February 19, 1979.
Dorothy was a housewife and worked part-time in retail sales for JC Penney.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Dorothy and Bill loved the Olmsted County Fair, education and youth, and named Building 40 “Futuristic Hall” thinking it represented our future in our local and area youth, displaying their proud fair entries each year. This building was recently renamed the “Horticulture/ Domestic Arts” Building.
Dorothy was one of the original homeowners at Buena Vista Condominiums in Rochester, living there until a sudden health decline in September of 2003. Following a brief hospitalization and ill health, she moved to Saint Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha, Minnesota.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Karen (Mark) Brown and four grandchildren, Nathan, Zachary, Ashley and Alexander, all at home in Rochester, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Capelle of Arizona, her husband Bill, her daughter Cheryl Kurrash, and three stillborn granddaughters.
There will be a visitation for friends on Thursday, September 10, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, Minnesota. Private burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
It was Dorothy’s wish that all four of her grandchildren graduate from college.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family will be used to establish the Bill and Dorothy Kurrash Scholarship Fund.
