Dorothy Grace Evenson Long

The funeral service for Dorothy Grace Evenson Long will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Lester Horntvedt officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19th and one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Long, age 93 of Rochester, died Saturday, October 14th at Edenbrook of Rochester.

Dorothy was born November 27, 1923 in Rock Dell, MN to Edward and Alma (Hogenson) Evenson. On October 26, 1943, she married Cecil “Baldy” Long in St. Louis, MO. Baldy died June 25, 2013. Dorothy and Cecil were co-owners of the Pla-mor Ballroom in Rochester with his brother Lloyd (Laura) from 1974-2006. Dorothy also worked for the Kahler Hotel in housekeeping. She was also a member of Phi Sigma Alpha sorority. She enjoyed puzzles, word searches, bingo, old time dancing, cards, and the ever-popular spending time with her family.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Robert Long of Kasson, Kenneth K. Long of Rochester, Wayne Long of Newport News, VA, Merle (Gloria) Long of Rochester, Warren (Nancy) Long of Blue Earth, Kathryn (Jeff) Dickhut of Minnetonka, Susan Long of Rochester, Sam Long of Rochester, Donna (Mark) Olson of Laughlin, NV, Gary Long of Rochester, and Roger (Deb) Long of Manhattan, MT; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Norma Evenson of Overland Park, KS, and Vivian Christianson of Minnetonka; brother-in-law, Clayton Thiede of Mankato; and sister-in-law, Louise Evenson of Rochester. She is preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Geraldine and Debra Long; two brothers, Clifford and Ardean Evenson; her twin sister, Doris Borland; and sisters, Eunice Thiede and Janet Erickson.

Family prefers memorials to Mayo Clinic Hospice.
