Dorothy A. Joswick

Dorothy Joswick peacefully passed away to Our Lord, July 11, 2012 at Bethany Samaritan Senior Care Community in Rochester at the age of 97. She lived a wonderful, long, healthy, active life, loved by her family and others, and now missed by many.

Dorothy was born February 5, 1915 to John and Anne Pellowski in Winona. She grew up in Winona and married Clem Joswick in 1940. In 1944 she and her husband settled in Rochester where they raised three sons. After living in her Northwest Rochester home for 66 years, she moved into Bethany Samaritan Senior Care Community where she resided for the past year.

She was an active member of St. Pius X Church for over 57 years and enjoyed volunteering and participating in social groups. Dorothy also enjoyed working for over ten years at St. Mary’s Hospital as a floor secretary. Having been an avid golfer all her life, at the age 69 she made a hole in one on the 11th hole at Soldier’s Field and bought the golfers in the club house a round of drinks to celebrate.
Dorothy is survived by her 3 sons: David, Longwood FL; Tom, Rochester MN; Stephen, Spokane WA; daughter-in-law Ethel, Rochester MN; niece Mary Jo Lang, Rochester MN; 5 grand children, 6 great grandchildren and a grand nephew. Her parents, sister, husband and three grand children preceded her in death.

A funeral Mass will be held at St Pius X Church Saturday, July 28 at 10:00am with the Rev. Charlie Collins officiating. Friends may call from 9.30am to 10:00am. A luncheon at the church will follow the Mass. Burial will take place at 1:30pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona. Your thoughts and prayers for Dorothy, her family and friends are very much appreciated. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you have a mass said in Dorothy’s remembrance.

Macken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. On-line condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

Condolences

The family of Dorothy A. Joswick has received the following condolences.

My husband, Bob, and I will miss seeing Dorothy at Cascade Creek! She was a neighbor of my father, Vinal. She was always such a joy to see and we had many fun conversations with her. She especially liked our dog, Scot-Chi, who would jump on her lap and she laughed and laughed! We enjoyed many Friday happy hours with her and Mary Jo and Mark. We will miss her, but know that she is now where she wants to be.

Marge Severeid & Bob Curry

David/Tom/Steve, our sincere and deepest condolences in the loss of your Mother.  This can truly be a "celebration of life" because no one enjoyed life more than Dot.  She had a good, long life.  Loss of such a  wonderful person is never easy.  She was a dear friend to my mother.  We always enjoyed being with and around Dot.

Dear Family of Dorothy:

As a former pastor of St. Pius X I wish to extend my sympayth and assurance of prayers for Dorothy and all of you on her death.  I am sure that she will be missed by all of you.  I have memories of many conversations with her and her husband from my time as their pastor.  I am very pleased that my deacon, Deacon Justin Green, will be able to provide the graveside sercervices for her at St. Mary's Cemetery on Saturday.

Again, my prayers for her and all of you.
