Donald Harley Nisbit

Donald Harley Nisbit, 84, of Rochester, died in the early morning of April 22, 2020, with family by his side, as a result of complications from progressive supranuclear palsy at Cottagewood Senior Community.

Don was born May 4th, 1935 in Winona to Alvin and Henrietta Nisbit and grew up in Winona County Minnesota. He graduated from Saint Charles High School in 1953 and then attended the University of Minnesota, completing a degree in agricultural studies. He served with the U.S. Army reserves from 1958 to 1963 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Don married Mildred Matthees September 15th, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Norton Township and eventually settled in rural southwest Rochester where they raised registered Ayrshire dairy cattle. They later moved to southeast Rochester and Don took employment with and retired from Rochester City Lines.

Don and Millie enjoyed dancing to old time music and had a vast network of friends and traveled all over to dance together.

Don was preceded in death by his parents: Alvin and Henrietta Nisbit; brother and sister-in-law: Harold and Barbara Nisbit; brothers-in-law: Wayne Dabelstein and Donald Trolliet; and sister, Carol Glover.

He is survived by his wife Millie; daughters: Wendy (Kevin) Tesmer of Elgin and Renee Barrett of Rochester; son Scott (Michelle) Nisbit of Coon Rapids, granddaughters: Lindsey (Chris) Woods of Sartell, and Whitney Tesmer of Winona; brother, Robert (Beverly) Nisbit of Saint Charles; sisters: Alice Dabelstein of Saint Charles, Marilyn (Richard Grobe) Harcey of Millville and Darlene Trolliet of Huntley, IL; brother-in-law, Donald Glover of Saint Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Cottagewood cottage #2 staff and Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care.

Due to current restrictions a memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

Condolences

The family of Donald Harley Nisbit has received the following condolences.

Dear Millie and family.  I am saddened to hear of Don's passing and remember him as an outstanding, generous, kind, and wise man. The relationship my brother, Otto, and I had with Don, Bob, Alvin, and Wayne in the years of showing cattle and various county and state events are treasured times. We had even further involvement with Don during the time he spent with MN Holstein Assn. in marketing our cattle and others to Japan and local buyers. What an honourable and honest person Don was and we remember his notable saying: never get mad, get even!

It was indeed an honour to be involved with this man among men throughout the '60s, 70's and '80s, and we wish you our heartfelt condolences on his passing.  All our best wishes for a satisfying and enjoyable life in the future.

Best Regards,

Carlus Dingfelder,

Millie and family,  I was so sorry to hear about Don, and you have my sympathy.  I remember fondly all the good times we had together in our younger years.

Sincere sympathy to the Nisbit family. Don was an old friend that we enjoyed the friendship with.

Thoughts and prayers to each of you!   Memories so treasured!

Sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Donnie will be missed so very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We are so very sorry to learn of Don's passing. We will continue our prayers for your family during this hard time.  Even though it is hard for those he left behind, I believe his passing was a blessing from God to take him to Heaven at this time. Bless you all !  Darrel & Angie

Scott,  I apologize I missed "Son" when I acknowledged your Mom and sisters. You were a young lad when I knew your family.

I recall you having the same exact twinkling smile and happiness in life just like your Dad. No doubt you are carrying it also from your boyhood.  Now that I mentioned it your sisters are going to recognize it. Probably enjoy teasing you.

Take care! Donna Mack

My sympathy to the Nisbit family. Donny's passing is a sadness to everyone that had the honor of knowing him. My fondest memory is his smile with sincere eye contact. When he looked into your eyes and smiled, his eyes had a twinkle. A twinkle of happiness, kindness, joy and a loving heart. (And a little mischievous, I am sure he carried with him as a little boy). Always a man young at heart.

His love for Milly, his daughters, extended family and life in general could not go unnoticed.

Although time will not make you miss Donny less, I pray your memories and love you shared will strengthen and comfort you.

Sincerely,  Donna Mack (Alex Dabelstein's Mom)

Wendy & Renee....

Sorry to hear about the passing of your dad.  He was a great man!

Keeping all of you in my prayers.   Hope to see you soon?

My deepest sympathy to Don’s family, I worked with Don at Rochester City Lines what a wonderful man. Don and I got to know each other when he was training me while I learned all the routes. RIP my friend
