Donald “Don” R. Viker
Donald Raymond Viker, 79, died at Golden Living Center in St.Charles on Thursday, February 20th, 2014 of cancer. Donald was born August 11, 1934 in Rock Dell to the late Magnus and Edna Viker. After school Don joined the US Army where he was sent to Germany to serve on a German Army Training Team. He served from January 13, 1955 to October 12, 1956. After the service Don worked as a backhoe operator. He started out working for Viker & Sorenson then went to work for Dave Badger, and later worked for Pat Overend, and retired from Rochester Sand and Gravel. On April 6, 1957 he married Arvella Hegna and they were divorced in 1970. In 1975 he met Elaine Eidem and she has been his significant-other ever since. Don was a member of the VFW in Rochester and American Legion in Elgin. One of his greatest joys was spending time doing farm work and working on his tractors. Don also loved playing cards and dice with family and friends and occasionally going to a casino. In recent years he also enjoyed traveling. He loved going to auctions and he was quite the polka dancer. In the last couple of years his faithful companion “Scruffy” his dog was by his side.
Survivors include his two sons, Terry (Robin) Viker and Todd Viker both of Dodge Center, his significant other Elaine Eidem of Eyota, MN; Two grandchildren, two Great- Grandchildren, his brothers, Marvin Viker of Byron, MN, Melvin (Pete) Viker of Rochester, MN, a sister Mabel (Gerald) Bale of Byron, MN, Elaine’s children; Mike, Scott, Steve, Becky and Jeff Eidem; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Magnus and Edna Viker, two infant daughters, Tammy Rae and Kimberly Sue Viker, and two brothers Norman Viker and Palmer Vicker.
A funeral service for Don will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at East St. Olaf Church (Rock Dell, MN) with Pastor Darby Lawrence officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home (1105 12th Street SE Rochester, MN) and one hour prior to the service at East St. Olaf. Burial will be in the East St. Olaf Cemetery.
