Donald Charles Austin

Mr. Austin, 93, of Glenwood City, WI, formerly of Rochester, died Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Glenhaven Care Facility. Don was born August 21, 1925 in rural Oakwood Township in Wabasha County, MN to Charles and Selma (Jensen) Austin.

He graduated from Plainview High School in 1943. He married Donna M. Kruger in Winona MN in 1944. Don served in the army during WWII in the South Pacific. Don and Donna lived in Rochester for most of their lives. The couple were charter members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Rochester, MN. After the passing of Donna, Don moved to Glenwood City, WI in 2017. Don worked for Braniff Airlines as a station agent in Rochester, MN for many years and later for the City of Rochester as a building inspector.

Survivors include his daughter, Susan Oehlke of Woodville, WI and his son Richard (Sandy) of Sartell, MN; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Donna; his brother, Chester; his son-in-law Dennis Oehlke; and one great-grandchild, Nate Oehlke.

Don loved raising horses, fishing, and spending time at his cabin.

The funeral service for Donald C. “Don” Austin will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester with military rights provided by the American Legion Post 92. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Don worked for us at Construction Management  Services. He was fun to be around.  Very good inspector. We have always had tremendous respect for Don. He will be missed.
