Don was a wonderful man - always full of energy and lots of laughter! I will always cherish the Strauss/Mackey annual Xmas hockey battles initiated by the dropping of the puck by Don and my dad.
Don will be missed - God Bless!
My condolences to all of you~ Rosie and the entire family. My memories of Don are of a very kind, gentle man. The image I hold of him is always having a smile to share and an infectious laugh to go with it. I know he was truly a proud & dedicated father & husband that will be missed. Hope you are all doing well~

Having grown up with the Mackey's I have many fond memories of Don. He always found time to ask how you were doing and to talk with you. I remember most the twinkle in his eye and his contagious smiles, despite the chaos that was occurring from having half the neighborhood in and out of their home. Don was truly a gift from God and I am very proud to have known him.
Having had the pleasure to grow up in SE Rochester next to Grandma Forbes I knew Don and Rosemary at a very young age. As I grew up (and grew old) it was always fun to run in to Don and Rosemary in various places here in Rochester. There was no one with a smile like Don! God Bless his memory and HUGS to all of you!
To the Mackey family:
With the passing of our Uncle Don Mackey, the community has lost the kindest, sweetest person you would ever want to meet. To know him is to love him. Don Mackey; devoted husband to the love of his life, Aunt Rose and wonderful father, grandfather, loving brother, and uncle. Although distance kept him from his family in North Carolina, the time spent with him was so precious.
On his last trip to Greensboro I was waiting for him at the airport. The plane landed, and passengers exited the plane, however there was no Uncle Don. As I approached the pilot to ask that they go back and look for him, he came walking out with two stewardesses. They both held many photos of his children in their hands. They were asking questions such as "How old is this one?", "What's the grade in school for this one?", "Which is the oldest, which is the youngest?" He was so very proud of all of his children. Music is playing as the reunion in heaven has begun. You are all in our thoughts and in our prayers.
Love,
Your Cousin Sheila Steele and family (Seth, Michelle, and Drake)
Rosie, Pat and family. So sorry for your loss but we guess God needed a new angel in heven. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours in your time of loss. Don always was such a pleasure to see with that big smile on his face. He was like a human sunshine. Love Ed and Patti

I'm sure he and Dad are enjoying a beverage together right now up in Heaven!

What a dancer , i remember him at the Sanden's weddings always dancing up a storm. i have a lot of wonderful memories of him that I will always treasure, the hats he wore, your family coming to our house on the hill, and my parents and yours having there golf get togethers and of course those Post t Office picnics . Rosie and family, You are never alone and with stength and love, your soul will be refreshed and filled with the wonderful memories of your departed. Let the thought that others are thinking of you comfort you during this difficult time. With Sympathy. My deceased husband Dave McLaughlin had work with Don many years ago at the Rochester Post Office. And Rosie and I were members of the Sunshine Club. Mrs. Dave McLaughhlin (Beverly)
I've know Don for many years, growing up with the Mackey kids, and he always greeted you with a smile and asked how you and your family were doing. I encountered him many times when he was a volunteer at Mayo and always got the same greeting. Don enjoyed people and will be missed by his many family members and friends.
Don and Rosie raised a wonderful family. My brother-in-law, Tim, enjoys the company of others as much as Don & Rosie! You can feel the Irish in them! God bless the Mackeys.
Don was a wonderful, loving father in-law for 25 years to me. Always asked how things were going and how the kids were doing. Offered me a glass of wine when I'd visit he and Rosie's home and made me feel welcomed and loved. We'll miss you, Don and will rely on our memories to keep you alive in our hearts.
I will always remember Don as the dad who, no matter how many kids were coming and going thru the kitchen while he tried to watch his little TV, you were always welcomed with that big smile! I have so many fond memories of those jr high and high school days hanging out at the Mackey house with Don, Rosie, Janie and the rest of the Mackey family. My sincere condolences to you all.
I only knew Don for a short period of time but enjoyed his laugh and spirit. Thoughts and Prayers to Tim and the family
