Domenic Martini

Domenic Martini of Rochester passed away on April 18, 2012 at Sunrise Cottages.

Domenic Andrew Martini was born on May 31, 1921, the third son of Italian immigrants Domenic and Christina (Parisi) Martini.  Domenic was a graduate of Millbrook High School, Millbrook, New York, and City College of New York.  During World War II Domenic served in the U.S. Air Force stationed at the U.S. Airbase in Reykjavik, Iceland.  On February 20, 1954, Domenic married Mary Eleanor Gannon in Amenia, New York. They made their home in Millbrook, New York. He cared for his father, who moved to Minnesota with them, and lived with them until he passed away in 1963.  While in New York, Domenic began a 34 year career with I.B.M., first in Poughkeepsie, New York and later in Rochester, Minnesota, where he retired in 1986.

Domenic is survived by his 8 sons, Mike (Cecelia) of St. Paul, Jay (Vicki) of Eden Prairie, Dan (Bev) of Savage, Bob (Brenda) of Rochester, Pat (Rachelle) of New Hope, Bill (Tina) of Elgin, Chris (Melanie) of Rochester, and Matt (Jackie) of Madison, Wisconsin.  He also leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and his best friend and companion, Barbara Miller.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, 2 brothers and granddaughter, Claire.

Our family wishes to thank Kelly Talamantes and the staff at Sunrise Cottages for the love and compassion shown our father over the past 2 years. You blessed his life.

Visitation will be Friday April 20, 2012 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Macken Funeral Home, Rochester. A funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Saturday April 21, 2012 at Pax Christi Catholic Church, Rochester, with one hour visitation prior to the service.

Condolences

The family of Domenic Martini has received the following condolences.

I am sorry to read about your Dad.  Charlie loved to play golf with him & he enjoyed knowing all of you, some from Pace Dairy, I think.  Now they can golf together again.  Charlie also passed on April 18th.  My prayers and sympathy to your family.

Jay -- I am sorry for the loss of your dad.  He must have been something to grow a "punkin" loving guy like you.  My mom went away last summer, so I am familiar with that hole left in your soul -- that place where only a mom or a dad's love could reside.  Ah well.  Onward, my friend.  My condolences to your family.

Jay, Vicky and family,

We are so sorry to hear about you Dad's passing.  Words can not probably fill the void you maybe feeling now but please know your Dad, you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.  Hopefully your memories will lessen the sadness.

sincerely,

Cathy and Mark Sparks

We are so sad to hear about the passing of your Dad.  He was so very proud of all of you and loved talking about what you were doing.  I always enjoyed seeing him when he came to New York to visit.  Our condolences to Barbara, too.  God bless you, Uncle Bucky.  May you rest in peace.

Robert,Brenda and Family-We are very sadden by the passing of your father, I didnt know him personally but if he is anything like you and Jay he is a great man.-John and your YMCA Family

The Carlson family (33rd Street SW) wishes to extend their sympathy to the entire Martini family.  Dom wa one of the good guys and he will be missed.  I appreciate Matt coming by 33rd Street SW this afternoon.

God Bless, the Martini Family.

Dear Family of "Dom",

My father OJ Rinehart and "Dom" (as I remember him being call by dad) were very close family friends from their years at IBM.  My father went to Sun Rise Cottage 7 with Kelly T in 2002 and my mother in 2004.  In my father's final year (2008) I was able to get them together in cottage 1.  Sun Rise was a wonderful place and eventhough mom could not speak and their minds had left them, everyone there knew where to find Irene...she was sitting with OJ.  Even after he passed, she would wonder to his room and lay on his bed.   Love is a wonderful bond.  I miss them both dearly as you will your father.  It is a long goodbye but keep you fond memories alive.  I too knew you dad at IBM and he and OJ would laugh, joke with each other and pull pranks.

My deepest condolences for the loss of a wonderful man and I also remember my dad saying what a wonderful father he was too!

Ann (Rinehart) Nelson

I am so sorry for your loss. May "the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) comfort and soothe your heart. His promises, found in the Holy Scriptures, can offer much hope. It assures us at John 5:28,29 that our loved ones will be remembered and brought back to life in the resurrection. Please allow God's Word to strengthen you and help you to endure this most difficult time.

Melanie,  Not sure if you remember Ric and I from IBM or not, but noticed the obituary for your father in law in the paper and wanted to send you a quick note and let you know that you and your family are in our prayers during this time.  You were always so helpful and cheerful to Ric and I at work.

I will always remember Uncle Dom as that generous, selfless, tireless and talented man with a huge heart.  He could play, fix, create and build anything; and was an inspiration to me.  He leaves a legacy of eight wonderful sons - and our hearts go out to "mine boys" and their families at this time of loss.

with love,

John, Ann, Erin & Lauren

To all of the Martini Boys & their families,

We are sorry for the loss of your wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather.  We have enjoyed many gatherings throughout the years with your Dad and some of you.  He always had a story to tell and a smile on his face.  He loved each one of you so dearly and talked about all of you and what you were doing in life.  He was so proud of his family, grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

Although he is in heaven, he will continue watching each one of you as you carry on his legacy.  He was a  wonderful, kind & happy soul and we were blessed to be a part of his life.  We will treasure our memories that we have of Dom and will miss him.  He is home now and at PEACE.  You have our deepest sympathy.
