Diane Mary McGowan

Diane Mary Deutsch-McGowan, 67 of Rochester, MN, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at her home. Diane was born Saturday, January 15, 1955 in Virginia, MN to Leroy James “Big Daddy” and Gervais Mary (Brossard) Deutsch. She graduated from Lourdes High School in 1973.

She is survived by her daughter, Krista Diane McGowan, Krista’s father Markus McGowan and her grandson, the love of her life, Tyler McGowan-Burrow all of Indialantic, FL; her siblings, James (Diane) Deutsch of Maple Grove, MN, Pamela Deutsch-Bargfrede of Rochester, MN, Patrick (Teri) Deutsch of Rochester, MN and Michelle Wood of Highlands Ranch, CO; numerous nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, her grandson’s father Benjamin Burrow, her brother-in-law Stanley Bargfrede, and her beloved dog Snuggles.

Diane was a strong independent woman. She was the first female taxi driver in Rochester and spent many months backpacking Europe in the early 70’s. During the 90’s to early 2000’s, Diane was busy serving the community as a member of various government boards such as Planning & Zoning and Downtown Development. She actively volunteered and chaired numerous local government election campaigns. Diane spent her working career as a private duty nurse. Her patients could not have asked for a better caregiver. Diane’s final patient was her daughter, who was injured during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. She was able to care for and spend her last 8 months with her daughter and grandson. Many wounds were mended and a panoply of memories were made. She enjoyed spending time with her wonderful neighborhood friends and their dogs, hiking in Indian Heights Park, taking day trips in her ‘74 Corvette, and tending to her beautiful luxuriant flower gardens. Diane’s sense of humor was uncanny. Her laugh was infectious and unforgettable.

Please join her family for a Celebration of Diane’s Life Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Visitation will start at 10:00am in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN with service at 11:00am. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with luncheon immediately following at the Grill (downstairs) at Somerby Golf and Country Club in Byron.

Condolences

The family of Diane Mary McGowan has received the following condolences.

To the Family and Friends of Diane,

My sincere condolences on the loss of Diane. She and I served on the City of Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission for many years together. As you may already know, there was a considerable development boom in Rochester in the those days. As a volunteer commissioner, this resulted in dedicating countless hours preparing for meetings reviewing the public hearing packets sent to us the weekend before the twice monthly meetings, many hours spents listening to public hearings which could be highly emotionally charged and/or contentious, and a few hearings lasting very late. Diane always came prepared, made reasonable and valuable comments in discussion and never lost her sense of humor and her gift in dealing with the public and fellow desenting commissioners.  She was a great person and I only wish our paths had crossed in recent years.

God Bless and ride on Diane. We will meet again. May her memory be a blessing.

I had the pleasure of meeting Diane years ago at a time when we were both getting our lives back. She was an amazing support to me, and I hope I to her as well. She always continued to check in on me throughout the years, which shows what a beautifully committed and valuable friend she was. May you rest easy Diane..I will miss your sweet messages. ❤️ Condolences to the family

I send my condolences to Diane's family ...

Quite a few years ago she was a private duty nurse for some relatives of mine in town. Her presence, in that house, was a rare blessing.  No one could have stepped into that situation and kept things running as smoothly as she did. She performing her job, nearly a 24/7 caregiver, with nothing but compassion and dedication.  She certainly had a gift for dealing w/people. I've heard the Europe backpacking adventure many times and I always received the impression that that event was a real highlight in her life.  I'm truly sorry for her family's loss.

It is with sadness that I heard of her death.  May she rest in peace.   In the meantime may all of you take care.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of this huge loss of the McGowan and Deutsch families.  It takes me back to our gradeschool years, our neighborhood, our school and the many friends that we all shared.  Diane was surely one of my favorites. Please know that you are very much on my mind and my heart aches for all of you...for all of us.

Dear Deutsch and McGowan Family,

So saddened to see Diane passed away.  She was so adventurous and fun to know.  I won't be able to attend the visitation/celebration but will be thinking about you all and pray your hearts will heal from your loss.

Take care,

Dan and Rita (Sell) Marquardt

To the family of our dear friend Dee Dee.

We lived next door to her on 11th Ave. She was a babysitter to our kids and fun to have around. We remained friends forever. We did many things together and she was always so fun to be around. We will miss her as many people will.

Rest In Peace friend.

Our hearts are broken. We could not have found a better neighbor!!! Our Pups enjoyed days of play while we had gab sessions. Diane is grace, care and love mixed with a salty, playful sense of humour. Play well our friend. Snuggles is with you and we will see you again. XX

Oh my heart… I am so sorry to hear this. I have known her since grade school when she grew up on 11th Ave SE. I am so sorry for your loss. She was one of my biggest fans of my videos of the ground hogs behind my house . I had the pleasure of making some special gnomes for her.she was always kind and a joy to know.  She is forever in my heart and I will celebrate her glory with God. ❤️, Diana Stock-Prescott
