Dennis P. Blazing

Dennis, 59, of Rochester, MN died unexpectedly Friday, July 8, 2016. Dennis was born on November 25, 1956 in Rochester, MN to parents Loretta (Sellner) and Robert Blazing.

The funeral service for Dennis P. Blazing will be at 2:00pm on Thursday July 14, 2016 at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Woody Roland officiating.  A visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday evening and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

In his childhood, Dennis enjoyed adventures and games with his siblings and Marvale neighborhood friends. Dennis worked at the Chateau Theater and the Rochester Post Bulletin in his youth, and graduated from Mayo High School in 1975. Following high school, Dennis attended school for natural resources in Brainerd, MN. While at school, Dennis enjoyed many escapades, including climbing to the top of Devils Tower in Wyoming. After spending time living in Minneapolis, MN, Dennis began his career working as a naturalist at Oxbow Park, where he worked with the animals and created many memories with the staff. After his time at Oxbow he worked at Rochester Golf and Country Club as a Grounds Keeper. On March 16, 1984 Dennis married Vicki L. Buske at Peace United Church of Christ in Rochester. They lived together in Rochester for 31 years. Following their wedding, Dennis began his own business, Blazing Lawn Service, and started studying neon at Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Blazing Studio became his second business, where he crafted neon signs and stained glass. He also spent time working at John Kruesel’s Auction Company, Schad-Tracy Signs Inc, Sign Tech, and Precision Signs. Most recently Dennis was employed at Mayo Clinic in Environmental Services for 6 years. He volunteered and did fund raising with his wife Vicki at Ducks Unlimited, the Rochester Art Center, and Crossings in Zumbrota.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Vicki, his two daughters, Corin Blazing and Carly (Blazing) Frei and husband Ross Frei, siblings Ken Blazing and wife Trista, Dave Blazing and wife Paula, twin sister Denise (Blazing) Young and husband Chop, and Dale Blazing; as well as four nephews and five grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents.

Dennis loved creating vibrant works of art. This included stained glass, neon signs, leather making, mosaics, and other creative endeavors. He also enjoyed trout fishing, hiking, bird watching, tree and wildlife identification, target shooting, gardening, cooking, playing games, making jokes, storytelling, and spending time with his family, friends, and many beloved animals.

In lieu of flowers, memorial funds are preferred to the family.

Denise,

I was so saddened to hear of Dennis's passing. I have such fond memories of him during our early adult years. I'll always be grateful to him for teaching me to trout fish and the sharing of his expertise. It was the best of times! I still have the beautiful stained glass piece he gave me many years ago. My thoughts go out to you, Vicki, and your families.

Dear Blazing family,

My heart is so completely broken, and it is tough trying to stop all the tears from hearing this news. But I guess I'm ok with this, because I know he is now with his proud (and who wouldn't be?) Heavenly Father in heaven. Dennis was always a real and true friend, from our time at St. Francis Grade School, through Mayo High School and beyond. Dennis was always the sane one (and Dale, you were always there, shoulder-to-shoulder with him), when our little group lived the bulk of our lives together, during and after high school. I've always loved, respected, and greatly admired Dennis, and during our formative years, I learned so much from him about the really important things in life. I only wish I could have spent more time in these later years with him, because he was always the one who would bring a smile to your face every time he would happen to show up. I'll never forget, and I'll always cherish the fantastic memories I have of Dennis Blazing.  What a great man! I am truly blessed to have been his friend.

Deepest sympathy to Ken Blazing & family:

I did not know your brother who has just passed away, but in reading all the condolence comments, I see where he was an amazing man.  He has left wonderful memories to so many people with his his abilities.  A deep loss to his family, including you & your family, Ken.  I wish I had known him!  Gordon Christianson3

we've all lost a fine man, I've lost a kindred spirit to what this earth shares with us. He is my brother and my gratitude for his caring and gentle steps. Love, Craig

We are so sorry to hear that Dennis has passed. We have such fond memories of your sweet, talented family in past years at Peace Church. Dennis had a smile that will never be forgotten, just the nicest fella and all around great guy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. We'll be looking for that new, beautiful neon star that will be glowing back at us all from the heavenly night sky.

My sympathy to our family. Dennis did an amazing piece of neon work, that was in memory of my son. He was so compassionate, kind and caring.A legend in his field..I will ever forget him, as I have a part of his artistry in my home.

My sympathy to family and friends. I was very sad to hear about Dennis. We had a class together many years ago at RCTC and went trout fishing a few times. As often happens we had lost touched over the years, but would run into each other at church or on the street somewhere and take time to talk as old friends do. I will miss him and remember those times as we all will. Rest In Peace.

Dennis was one of the kindest and most patient men I have known. We are all diminished by his passing. May he fly quickly to Jesus' side in the Glory of God the Father and may his friends and family find solace in the presence of the Holy Spirit as they chart a new course without him here below.

DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY, I went to school at Mayo with Dennis and have great memories of those times. Dennis had also made a neon sign for me as a present for my wife, this will hold those fond memories and I will think of him every time we light it up, much the way his contagious smile lit up everyone around him.

Dennis you will sure be missed by everyone at work! You kept me laughing through the crazy and difficult times. Always the one to tell stories of your family, and so excited to see your girls when they came home to visit. I remember how you would talk about how wonderful and amazing your wife was. Your family will always know what a terrific husband and father you were. As I found out what a co worker you were. Thanks for the great memories! We all love and miss you! God has one more angel to look after us now! ??

Oh Vicki, I am so sorry to read this. Dennis was such a great friend back when we were Sunday school teachers. I can't imagine what you are going through. I am, once again, so very sorry.

Dearest Vicki,

I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family,

Karen Virgil

I am so sorry for your loss.  I still have the lovely pieces of stained glass that Dennis designed for my house when I lived in Woodhaven in north Rochester.  He took my memories and love of nature, and captured them so beautifully in glass and lead.  Dennis had a rare gift and those of us who were able to experience it, were richer for it.

Trista, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Dave and Paula, so sorry to see the passing of your brother.  Take care.
