Deborah Rae Schwartz
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deborah Rae Schwartz, age 67, of Eyota, Minnesota, who departed this life on March 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at St. Mary’s Hospital. Born on November 22, 1957 to Wayne and Ardith (Helgerson) Hanson, Deborah was a cherished daughter, mother, sister, and friend whose compassionate spirit brightened the lives of everyone she met.
After graduating from Byron High School in 1977, Deborah dedicated her life to helping others. For many years, she worked at Hiawatha Home, where she found purpose and joy in assisting those with disabilities. Later, she became a beloved driver for Rochester City Lines, ultimately taking on the role of dispatcher until her autoimmune disease prevented her from continuing her work. Her unwavering kindness and dedication to serving others were hallmarks of her character.
Deborah had many passions outside of her professional life. She embraced her roles as a “Jack of all trades,” enjoying shopping, attending auctions, and crafting. Her culinary skills were legendary among family and friends. Deborah was known for opening her home to others, often inviting strangers to join her family for the holidays, reflecting her generous and loving nature.
Deborah is survived by her beloved children, daughter, Melodie Schwartz, and son, Wain Schwartz, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Preston, Hermione, Sheldon, Lyla, and Noah. She will be dearly missed by her brother, Steven D. Hanson, and her sisters, Kathleen (Michael) Nerlien, Laurie (Larry) Campion, Rebecca (Daniel) Barnes, and Corinne (Todd) Welter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Ardith Hanson, sisters Patricia Marino and Nancy Jo Peters, and sister-in-law Linda Hanson.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Deborah at the Eyota American Legion on Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 1:00-4:00 p.m, where friends and family will gather to share memories, support one another, and celebrate a life filled with love, kindness, and service. Please join us as we remember and celebrate the remarkable life of Deborah Rae Schwartz, whose legacy of compassion will continue to inspire us all.

It was a great pleasure to get to know Deb over the past few years. She was kind and generous and always thinking of others. She was a great combination of funny and sincere. I will miss joking around with Deb.
