David Leo Wojchik
David Leo Wojchik passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in his home in Buena Vista Condominiums in Rochester, MN.
He was born in Winona, MN, to Leo and Harriet Wojchik on October 15, 1948. His mother died in childbirth so his many aunts and uncles assisted his father with his upbringing. He grew up in Waumandee and Fountain City areas of Wisconsin and graduated from Cochrane Fountain City High School. He married the love of his life, Paulette Kearns, on June 3, 1972.
Dave was an EMT for Diamond Ambulance in the 1960s and then Gold Cross Ambulance from 1970 to 1997. He was the 100th hire at Gold Cross, and also took on a supervisory role there. In 2007, he travelled to Washington D.C. to accept the Star of Life award from the American Ambulance Association. He was also a surgical tech at St. Marys and Rochester Methodist Hospitals. In 1974, Dave and Paulette took on the venture of owning and managing the Pub Bar and Grill for several years. In 1997 he transferred to Mayo Clinic Fixed Wing Program as a transportation coordinator until his retirement in 2014.
Together, Dave and his wife raised 4 amazing children and were blessed with one grandchild. Recently they celebrated 50 years of married life. They have traveled to many countries and have met many forever friends abroad and at home. He loved baseball season and seldom missed a Twins game on TV. Dave was a calming presence. A gentle soul with a dry sense of humor. He loved deeply and was loved by many in return.
David is survived by his wife, Paulette; children, Chad (Michaela Gey), Eric (Katie Anne), Molly (Nathan) Goike, and Casey (Louise); cherished granddaughter, Matilda; sister, Jody (David) Wojchik Bahr; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Your sweet soul will be missed.
The visitation for David will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery.

My sweet Paulette and family,
I am so sad to hear of Dave’s passing. My wish for all of you is that your wonderful memories of Dave will help to ease the ache in your heart and bring you peace in the days to come. I wish I could be there with you but I will call in a few days to plan a visit. Hopefully a nice lunch. In the meantime please know you are in my prayers.
With love and sympathy, Peggy
My deepest sympathies to you, Paulette, and your children and spouses and precious Matilda ? I had the honor of working with Dave throughout the years at St. Mary's in the ER, as he was an EMT and then Supervisor for Gold Cross. I got to know him better when I was in dispatch, and he was instrumental in the Fixed Wing program. We could always count on his expertise! He made many friends and will be missed. PS- The Pub Bar and Grill sounds like it was a fun job☺ God's blessings to you all. Lori Crandall
Hi Paulette and family-
I was so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Although I never met him, from what everyone said about him, what I read about Dave, and how you expressed how he was, I could see what a remarkable man he was and so loved by his family and friends. I am so sorry you are all on this journey--A journey no one wants. You are so fortunate to have so many loved ones, family and friends. That will help. Thank you again for your support and kindnesses to me when my Dave died. I will always be grateful for that.
Please take care.
My Friendship and Sympathy--Patricia Campbell
Paulette & Family, our deepest sympathy to you all. Whitey was an amazing man. We enjoyed working with him over the years at Gold Cross and in ECC. The news of his passing is such a shock. He will be deeply missed. Whitey touched many lives and made the world a better place because of his kindness. Rest In Peace 100.
Paulette, I am so very sorry for your loss. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending love, light and hugs to you and your family. I know that the two of you had a very special relationship and I hope in the days ahead that you will find solace in all the many wonderful memories you made together.
Prior to meeting Dave, I don't ever remember putting a dish cloth over my shoulder while doing dishes. Now, 27 years later, there is not ever a dish that goes unwashed without a dish cloth over my right shoulder.
Paulette, Molly, Casey, Chad, and Eric,
I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of your precious husband and dad.
When he spoke, one could not help but listen. When he did not speak, one could not help but hear.
Dave will be missed forever.
Love,
"The Beckster"
Dave was an awesome individual to work along side during my dispatcher days with ECC. He walked us through and showed each of us how to make reservations for our patients seeking to get to Mayo Clinic. I very much admired his love of building and painting model ambulance and other EMS models. Rest In Peace now David. Knowing that you have now received you everlasting Crown of Life. Sincerer sympathy’s to the entire family.
Dave was simply a wonderful man who could not have been nicer to me when we interacted during my early days in the ER at St. Mary's. I honestly never knew anyone in EMS or Mayo Emergency Medicine who did not like this guy. Deepest sympathy to Paulette and family on the lost of a true gentleman and excellent caregiver.
Dave was a kind man. You could see the love he had for his wife and family. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. He had a generous spirit about him. He will be missed by so many.
love,
Lindy

My sympathy to Paulette and family. I worked with Whitey for several years in Dispatch. What a wonderful, kind person he was!! He will be greatly missed.
Very sorry to hear about the passing of Dave. He was one of my late brothers best friends. A good guy that I have a lot of fond memories of. Thoughts & prayers to Paulette & his children & granddaughter.
Today, my world is a little less joyful with the news of Dave's passing. As a young paramedic, Dave mentored and supported me in professional conduct and skills that were major contributions in my future successes. My life is better for knowing Dave. I treasure his memories.
Paulette I'm very sorry for you loss. My girls, even though they are almost 30 years old, talk about him to this day. They always start off saying remember that really nice guy that would bring the candy into work every day. They loved visiting dispatch, not to visit me, but to see Whitey and his old ambulance light full of candy. He was a wonderful man.
Paulette, Jody and families,
My deepest sympathies at this time of great loss. My heart, prayers and thoughts are with you.
Paulette and family, we are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.
Love and hugs,
Mark and Terri
