The memorial service for David A. Ferguson will be 11:00AM Thursday, April 24, 2014 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Russell officiating. Visitation will be 5:00PM – 7:00PM Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the memorial service on Thursday. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Ferguson, 76, of Dover, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Marys Hospital.
David Allan Ferguson was born on July 24, 1937 in Rochester to Allan and Stella (Miller) Ferguson. He attended local schools and graduated from Lourdes High School. He then served in the USMC from 1955 to 1958. On December 10, 1960, he married Joyce Lambrecht at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester.
After his military service, he worked briefly for Bell Telephone and a TV cable Company in Rochester. In 1959, he began his career with the Mayo Clinic with 10 years in cardiac research, 20 years as a supervisor in Veterinarian Medicine and 4 years as a surgeon’s assistant at Rochester Methodist Hospital. David’s other activities have been 27 years with the Dover Volunteer Fire Department, 16 years with the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, 12 years as a Dover City Clerk and 5 years as a Justice of the Peace. He also worked as a Contract Guard for the Bureau of Prisons, and as a Transport Deputy for Olmsted County Sheriff and US Marshal Service.
David was an amazing volunteer and enjoyed helping people. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 53 years, two daughters, Suzanne Ferguson of Phoenix AZ and Jodie (Travis) Dail of Pine Island, 5 grandsons, Nathaniel, Nicholas, Mikkel, Tyler and Hunter, 2 brothers, Thomas (Linda) Ferguson and William (Barb) Ferguson of Rochester and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Timothy and a sister, Virginia.

Loved to hear of his experiences and of his family and about the best Potato Salad made in Dover. Seriously my sincere Sympathy to all of the family. Share the memories. He will be missed.

Dad, who is now 88, is disappointed and sorry that he cannot attend the funeral services. Dad enjoyed working with Dave and the rest of the group at Institute Hills.
