Daryl L. Guimond

Daryl Laurence Guimond, age 64, passed from this life on Saturday, September 15, 2018 doing what he loved to do, mowing his lawn. He was greeted at heaven’s door by his family who went before him and was welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior. He has been set free.

Daryl was born July 22, 1954 to Laurence R. and Darlene C. Guimond in Faribault, MN. He graduated from Mayo High School in 1972. He went on to attend Vocational School for Tool and Dye and later entered into apprenticeship with Local 6 Plumbers & Pipefitters Union and became a Journeyman Plumber/Steamfitter.

Daryl married his High School sweetheart, Linda Jo Hoyer, on April 5, 1974 and they were married for 44 years to the time of his death. Daryl and Linda were blessed with a son, Jason John, on January 12, 1979, and he was so very proud of his son. Daryl was further blessed with four precious grandchildren, Justin, Jackson, Olivia, and Delia, and they were the light of his life. The boys loved to go to grandpa’s office and he would give them pieces of gum and Olivia loved to snuggle with grandpa in his recliner.

Daryl worked for various plumbing shops during his career after receiving his Certificate of Apprenticeship qualifying him as a Journeyman Plumber on August 4, 1982. He was an instructor for Local 6 Plumbers & Pipefitters Union from 1990 to 2000 teaching apprenticeship classes for Local 6 JATC. Daryl was a member of Local 6 from 1979 until 2002 and left to take a position as a Journeyman Plumber for the Mayo Clinic until he retired in March 2014.

Daryl loved to build and fly model airplanes and has quite a collection of planes. He loved being outdoors, doing his yard work, tinkering with projects in the house and garage and was always willing to help anyone who needed his assistance. He was very family oriented and looked forward to family gatherings to be able to visit with family. He kept a well-stocked supply of bird seed and ears of corn for his birds and squirrels, which he loved to watch.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Linda; and his son, Jason (Elisa Lemley). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Justin, Jackson, Olivia, and Delia; his mother, Darlene (Ken LeVan); mother-in-law, Alberta Hoyer; brothers, Dale Guimond, Terry Guimond, Gregg (Jen) Guimond, Roger (Cathy) Guimond; sisters, Debbie (Dan) Frey, Sharon (Brian) Lubahn, Lori Guimond, Annette (Tom) Osborne; brother-in-law, Todd (Lisa) Erickson; and sister-in-law, Leanne (Mike) Tilford. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Laurence R. Guimond; father-in-law, John F. Hoyer; and his sister-in-law, Lisa Erickson.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens following the service.

Memorials are preferred to the family.

Life is shorter than any of us realize and you do not know what you have until it’s gone. Be kind to one another, take time to visit those you love, say I love you, and give lots of hugs. Heaven has gained a very good man and he will be deeply missed.
