The funeral for Darwin Looft will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Farm officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, 11:00am-1:00pm.
Darwin Looft, 79 of Rochester, died Tuesday, January 17th at his residence with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born in Swea City, IA on June 12, 1937 to Bernard and Ann Looft.
He graduated from Swea City High School in 1955. Darwin and Leone met at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA and married on October 18, 1958 at the Pine Island Methodist Church in Pine Island, MN. They spent the first year of their marriage in Mason City, IA where their son Greg Anthony Looft was born. They later moved to Rochester, MN where their daughter Kristin was born. He managed the National Food Store and later worked in management and then sold cars at Clements Chevrolet. He ended his career before retirement as a retail manager in sales & marketing.
Survivors include his wife Leone (Lee), son Greg of Hollister, MO and daughter, Kristin (David) Terrill of Rochester, MN; four grandchildren Emilee (Adam) Neill, Jade (Chad) Davis, JR Looft and Ashlee Terrill; great grandchildren Addison Neill, and Henry and Charlee Davis plus a sister Beverly (James) Harper of Sequim, WA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard & Ann Looft; his brother-in-law and best buddy, Orlo Andrist; sister-in-law, Marge Andrist; and nephews, Jimmie Harper and Brian Collins.
What Darwin looked forward to the most was spending time with his family and friends. A few of his favorite past times were attending stock car races and watching his favorite driver Mark Noble. He also enjoyed watching his daughter Kris play softball and cheering her teams to victory. He loved going to high school sporting events especially following his grandson JR’s football career. He loved animals and his pets especially his cat DJ and beloved cat Dusty. He was always quick with a hug, a smile or a joke. His favorite personal quote that he shared with many “Be careful on the streets” which meant I love you! We will all miss you…rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the families choice.
