Darlyne P. Dunn

Darlyne P. Dunn (Flynn) age 94 of Rochester died November 10, 2019. She was born March 2, 1925 in Osakis, Minnesota to George and Anna (Vangstad) Flynn. Darlyne was the oldest of six children and attended kindergarten in Sauk Center before her family moved to South Minneapolis where she attended school from 1st-8th grade. Her family then moved to Mound, Minnesota where she attended 9th grade. The following year the family moved back to Osakis where she attended high school, graduating in 1943.

Darlyne attended St. Cloud Teacher’s College and graduated from their Elementary Education program. She taught in Osakis for three years after her graduation from college and one year in Little Falls. Darlyne married Robert Dunn on June 11, 1949 and taught at Webster School in St. Paul for one year. Her five years teaching experience were in the 1st grade. Bob and Darlyne had five children: Thomas (Heidi), Kari, Patricia (Eileen), Susan Daub (Robert) and Kathryn Gardner.

Darlyne substitute taught in the Robbinsdale school district and tutored in the EBD program while her children were still at home. After the children were gone, she worked in the field of geriatrics as an activity director and volunteer coordinator. She retired in 1991 but continued to work part time in various types of employment. Her favorite work experience was always being mom to Tom, Kari, Pat, Susan and Kathryn. In 2005 Darlyne moved to Rochester.

Darlyne was preceded in death by her mother, Anna; father, George; brothers, George William, Thomas Delano, Donald Patrick and David Michael. She is survived by her children and their spouses; sister, Beverly Grossman of Alexandria; sisters-in-law, Mary Flynn of Mankato and Gwen Flynn of Alexandria; grandchildren, Walker Dunn-O’Connor (Michael), Morgan Dunn, Robert Dunn, Carson Dunn, Sam Daub, Andy Daub, Martin Gardner; nine nieces and nephews, Tim and Jenny Flynn, Mike and Dan Lohrman, Sean and Terry Flynn, Erin Domras, Brian and Nolan Flynn.

The Memorial Service for Darlyne Dunn will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2019 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Pastor Elizabeth McCauley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Seasons Hospice, Rochester.
