Darcy Jean Ling

Darcy Jean Ling, 65, of Rochester, MN, passed away Saturday August 3, 2019. Darcy was born on June 23, 1954 in Lansing MI. She had fond memories of growing up with her large extended family in the great state of Michigan. Darcy moved with her work in her early adult years growing her love of travel and building her large network of friends.

She met Walt Ling in Fort Wayne, IN in 1981 and they married August 13, 1983. They continued to move and travel having their first two children in Naperville, IL. They settled into Rochester in 1991 and much to both of their surprise, have lived here ever since, building community and bringing two more children into the world.

Darcy was a loving and extraordinary mother to her four kids. They couldn’t ask for a better number one fan. Darcy’s love for nature was apparent in the woods she helped care take, as well as the beautiful plants that graced the inside and outside of the home. Darcy was the first one to step up to help anyone and made friends wherever she went.

Darcy is survived and deeply missed by her husband, Walt and children, Eric (Emily), Caryn, Michael (Johanna), and Sean. She is also survived by her older siblings, Bonita Young, Kathy Wilber, & Tony (Paula) Wood and an amazing group of dedicated friends and extended family. Darcy is preceded in death by her parents, James and Frances Wood.

The Memorial Service for Darcy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday and from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 8.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Seasons Hospice, for the Season’s Hospice House: 1696 Greenview Drive SW, Rochester, MN 55902.

Walt,

So many years have passed so quickly since our HS day’s at SJR. D. Connelly passed along the news to the rest of our SJR alumni.

To you, your family and loved ones...My deepest condolences goes out upon hearing of the passing of a very special person from your lives. The beautifully written obituary well describes a life well-lived and loved. I’m sure the lifetimes that follow will be filled with assuring reflections of the wife, mother and friend that Darcy Jean was to you!

Walt and family,

I am so saddened to hear of your immense loss. Reading about Darcy, it seems to me she knew how to get the most out of life and share that zest with those lucky enough to be around her. May the memories and happy thoughts help temper the pain of losing her in this world. My sincerest condolences.

Our deepest condolences and prayers to your family~Mary & Todd Kelsey

So sorry for your loss. I knew Darcy growing up in Big Rapids during Junior High and High School. She was a lovely person and always so kind.  My prayers are with your entire family.

I am so sorry for your great loss.  Although I haven't seen Darcy in years, we were in high school at the same time and she was everyone's friend.  Last Saturday, in Big Rapids, I attended an "all year reunion".  All those attending heard the sad news of her death and we held a moment of silence in her honor.  She was a special lady and many hearts go out to you.  My sincere sympathy.

Walt and family,

Cindy and I send our deepest sympathy. Darcy was always so full of life - energetic, engaging, and enjoyable.  All of us will miss her.

We were very sorry to learn of Darcy's passing.  Darcy always had a smile on her face and rolled up her sleeves to help others.  Darcy had a wonderful sense of humor and made people feel welcome in her home.  We extend our sympathies to Walt and the entire family.  Bill & Julie Lower, Rochester MN

Hi Walt,

You probably don't remember or even know who I am, however, I spent years checking you and on occasion Darcy in as well at NWA in RST. You guys were always so kind and nice and at times when cancellations and delays occurred you didn't have to be. Nevertheless, I just wanted to send you my condolences and deepest sympathies for your loss. I know she will be missed by all whose lives she touched. May your memories of Darcy make you smile and hold her in your heart forever.

Sincerely,

Jill Wolf

Walt and Family:

I am very sorry for your loss.  While I never met Darcy, I have heard so much about what a great wife and mother she was, I feel like I do know her.   We will be keeping you in our prayers in this challenging time and asking for God’s peace for all of you.

Walt and family, so sorry to hear of Darcy’s passing.  We were constantly thinking of you as we kept track of caring bridge and thought of many better memories.  Of all things when we learned of Darcy’s passing Kath and I were in Copenhagen.  We were planning on coming back but unfortunately can’t make it from the Baltic.  God bless Darcy, you and the kids. The door is open in Florida.   Gary & Kath.

Walt and family. Just want you to know how saddened Barbara and I were to hear of Darcy's passing. We have such fond memories of being your neighbors on Kaito Lane for a number of years. As you know....Darcy was the best. She was so kind, considerate, compassionate about caring for family and so well versed on so many topics. Most of all, she was one sweet person and a perfect neighbor.

Walt and family....we are praying for you as you grieve the loss of your wife and mother. May God bless you and give you HIS peace in this difficult time!

My sincere condolences to all my friends in the Ling family.  Always in my heart never far from my thoughts. Darcy will be sorely missed.

Grew up in the same neighborhood as Darcy. We went to kindergarten together before I moved and changed schools. I remember her also from high school. She was popular, beautiful, and nice. So sorry for your loss.

Dear Walt and family,

Pat & I were so sad to hear about Darcy. You are held very close to my heart. Our deepest condolences to you and the family .

In sincere sympathy,

Alfons & Pat Pacheco

I remember Darcy (mostly) from junior-high in Big Rapids where we both attended. We both took tap-dancing lessons as well (before junior-high). I'm wondering now if I still have pictures of us performing on stage together? Darcy was a sweet friend. Darcy was way too young to be leaving this life. Very, very sorry for your loss.

Hi Walt & Family,

So sorry for your loss.  I pray the Lord comfort you all during this time.  Even though I never met Darcy I felt I knew her well.  Walt always mentioned her throughout our 1 on 1s and even group meetings.  There's no greater love than that of a mother and wife.  Thinking of Darcy often will surely bring some joy.  God Bless you all.

Walt and Family:

I am so sorry for your loss. May God give you comfort.

I remember the fun that Darcy and I and the rest of the small group of Aetna friends had during her time here. I am grateful that I got to know her. Even though we lost touch after she moved, we did reconnect via Facebook, so I was able to share in her love of her family.

Bev

I’m so sad to hear of Darcy’s passing.  We grew up together in Big Rapids and had a nice visit in MN a year or so ago.  It was great to reminisce of tap dancing and 4H.  Prayers for the family.  Laurie.

Darcy will be greatly missed.  she was a member of our Livestrong alumni and will forever be remembered for her outgoing personality and welcoming hug.

Darcy had a smile that would light up the room and a laugh that made you turn to see what was so funny because you didn’t want to miss it. She left the party way too early and will be sorely missed. Darcy’s family was everything to her and I am so sorry for your incredible loss.

I am so saddened by Darcy's death. You have my deepest sympathies. May happy memories ease your pain of the loss of this beautiful soul.

I was so sorry to hear of Darcy's passing.  I will always remember the conversations and laughs we had as our children were growing up.  She was such a kind soul and was taken from this earth too soon. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.  Many hugs, Laurie
