Daniel Robert Mahoney

Dan Mahoney passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 11, 2017.

Dan was born on July 25, 1962 in St Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1980. Following  high school he attended Rochester Community College and graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in Business and a minor in  Communications. Dan had a long career with Mayo Clinic, working in Media Support Services and enjoyed pursuing his personal interest of creating video art and music in his home studio.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Joann Mahoney. He is survived by four siblings; Theresa (John) Busch, Bridget, Patrick and Dennis (Laurie) Mahoney and four nieces and nephews.

Dan left us much too soon. We will miss his intellectual curiosity, his artistic talent, and his wonderful dry wit. A memorial gathering for Dan will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Department of Psychiatry & Psychology.

Condolences

The family of Daniel Robert Mahoney has received the following condolences.

I'll miss Dan's smile and wave in the hallways every time I saw him  Dan was always the one to make the proactive phone calls to make sure all was as it should be at work rather than waiting for something to break.  My sincere condolences to you, his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Dan was a wonderful man.

Dan was a kind soul and I feel blessed to have known him.  He will be greatly missed.

Dan's family,

I'm sorry I can't make it to the service this evening due to the weather.  I really wanted to be there for Dan.

I've enjoyed working with Dan for the last 26 years and I miss him.  Dan was such a nice guy and was always willing to help or answer any questions I may have had.  I know AV was not his dream job, but he sure was good at it.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your loved one and my friend Dan.  Wishing you loving memories to forever hold in your heart.

I did not have the opportunity to know Dan, however my sincere wishes for peace and comfort during this time of remembering him and mourning his loss with us here.

For the family, Mayo family and friends,

I am very saddened not to see Dan walking in the hallways and covering events.  When I pass places that Dan worked in, I think of him often (When I head to lunch in the cafeteria in Methodist Hospital, I pass a place in the subway where Dan helped with music events and programs.  I remember him and his smile every time I pass).

Since Dan was a quiet man and didn't say a lot, I made sure to always give him a big smile and say hello to make sure he knew that I cared about him.  Dan appreciated that and would always say hello and give me a great bright smile when we saw each other in the hallways.

Unfortunately I didn't have the privilege of working with him directly but saw that he was very professional while he worked and seemed to do a wonderful job.  Now, I'm hearing of his many talents and wish I could have known him better.  I love music and cats just like he did.

The loss of a loved one is so difficult and especially during the holidays.  My prayers have been with you since I heard the news.  I wish I could attend the service tonight.  Regretfully we live north and have a family commitment that prevents me from coming.  I will be thinking of you today and your precious Dan.  May God hold you close.

Deepest condolences to Dan's family. I had the great pleasure to call Dan a friend for over 30 years. Smart, articulate, witty, artistic, and kind are the first thoughts that come to mind when I remember Dan. My trips to Rochester just won't be the same without him.

I miss Dan very much.  He was a very interesting character that I wish I knew better.  I've known Dan for about 30 years but he was sort of quiet and rarely shared personal stories.  It seemed like this past year that he was starting to open up a bit.

He was a very talented artist and musician and an excellent Media Producer and Technician.  Whenever he was assigned to support a conference that I was involved with, I was always confident that he had it covered. Our Friday morning Cardiovascular Grand Rounds will never be the same without you.

He had a marvelous dry wit and sense of humor and I always enjoyed his company.  I regret that I didn't hang out with him more socially because he was such an interesting fellow.  I always felt that he had a depth of character that was fascinating.  He had a wisdom about him and I really enjoyed talking with him because his intelligence about a variety of topics was impressive.  I respected his opinion and for me he was one of those few people that when he spoke on a topic, I gave him my undivided attention.  He gave me many pearls of wisdom in his humble, quiet way.

I will really miss you Dan, you left us far too soon.  Every time I walk by your house on my way home from work, I am reminded of you.  May God bless your family at this difficult time.

I am sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed seeing Dan when I was at work. He will be missed.

Dennis and family - so sorry for your loss.  Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Dan, You will be missed. You were my first room mate, supplied party treats for many events and was a great friend. Now one ever had a more developed sense of humor than you Dan. The Pipers of Tucson
