Daniel D. Maloney

Mr. Maloney, 72, of Rochester, MN died Thursday, January 24, 2019 at his residence after a short battle with cancer. Daniel was born October 3, 1946 in Spring Valley, MN to Arthur and Florence (Smith) Maloney.

He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1964 and in 1968 from the University of MN receiving his B.S. degree in electrical engineering. On July 26, 1969, he married Phyllis Henderson at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, MN. Daniel worked for 35 plus years at IBM as an Engineer and Project Manager followed by employment at Mayo Clinic as a PC Support Technician.

He will be forever missed by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis; two children, Michelle Maloney of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Scott (Nancy) Maloney; grandchildren, Olivia (8), Jacob (6), and Natalie (6) Maloney of Rochester, MN; sisters, Kay (Roger) Bender of Barron, WI, and Marilyn “Jeni” Maloney of Fridley, MN; and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Rod Henderson.

Daniel enjoyed fishing, garage sales, casino visits, bingo, politics, and volunteering with Family Service Rochester (Meals on Wheels) and spending time with family and friends.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Luncheon will follow in the River Park Chapel.

Memorials are preferred to Family Service Rochester (Meals on Wheels) or Paws and Claws Humane Society.

Sorry to hear that Michelle's Dad has passed much too young. I met Michelle 2 Christmases ago. She is dating my nephew Andy Lica. Such a nice young lady.


I grew up in Rochester and worked at IBM for a brief summer around 1972.
