Curtis V. Dulohery
Curtis V. Dulohery, age 69, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at his home with loving family members at his side. He was born August 18, 1944, in Gainsville, Texas, to Curtis V. Dulohery, Sr. and Grenell (Nellie) Anna Hassur Dulohery. The family moved to Germany for a short time where his father served as a colonel in the United States Army. Curt’s parents separated and Nellie relocated to Omaha, Nebraska when Curt was very young. Curt attended Catholic schools and served as an altar boy, although his voice was excused from the choir. He graduated from Arch Bishop Ryan High School in 1962.
Curt became a cook in Omaha and St. Louis with dreams of traveling to France for chef school. Although his feet were too flat to join the Navy, he was quickly drafted into the United States Army. He trained as an aircraft repairman with duty in Vietnam prior to honorable discharge in 1967.
He returned to culinary arts, and became an Assistant Manager for Food Service Management. In December, 1972, Curt tested and was accepted into the DeKalb Fire Department, DeKalb, Illinois. Curt was instrumental in the development of the Paramedic program for the city of DeKalb, was a certified Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic, and completed advanced training for hazardous materials. He rose to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief and faithfully served the department for over twenty-two years. He attended Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois, where he also taught courses for Emergency Medical Services.
In the process of becoming a Paramedic he met Yvette Marie Fohrman, one of the certifying nurses. They married and Curt became the loving father of two sons, Sean Michael and Jared Vincent. They made their home in the DeKalb area for over 20 years. In 1997 they relocated to Mankato, Minnesota and later moved to an acreage between Madelia and New Ulm.
Curt was a gifted cabinetry maker and stained-glass artisan. He enjoyed bringing the wood to life and capturing light with glass.
Curt is survived by his loving wife, Yvette and their sons, Sean and his wife Kelly from Mankato, and Jared of Madelia. Curt was preceded in death by his mother, father, and an infant sister.
Memorial services will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Kosberg officiating on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11am with visitation on Wednesday evening from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and an hour prior to the memorial services. Casket bearers will be Jack Fohrman, Rick Njos, Jim Krulish, Marty Kruger, William Kruger, Ryan Njos, and Brian Kruger. Honorary bearers will be Regina DeVries and Kimberlee Krulish. A private interment will be held at a later date with Kimberlee Krulish playing Taps.

I remember you both Curt and Yvette from the Kishwaukee. My Mom, Geri and I both in the ER. I was very sadden to learn of Curts passing. He would come to our house in DeKalb, where he had a little garden plot. We talked many hours about gardening and his love and passion for gardening was very comendable. I remember your house out in the country where you first lived. I am very sorry for you loss, I know it is a great one...

Dear Yvette and Family,
Deepest condolences in the death of Curt. My heart goes out to you.May the special memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.
Dear Yvette,
Curt was such a joy to work with. I so enjoyed talking with him and seeing how many questions I could ask him that made him go to the library to find the answer if he did not know! His love for others always poured out. His love and pursuit of knowledge always showed as well. I have never met anyone as well rounded in knowledge as Curt was, but he always said you were much smarter. Today I will raise a glass of Pepsi in honor of Curt. I will always have special memories of Curt and his joy for life. I will be praying for you and your family as you deal with the loss of the love of your life! No more pain, no more suffering!

I am NOT a good writer, but I feel compelled to express my condolences. Kurt & Yvette lived next door to us (with Panda) when I was a child growing up. That was more than 30 years ago - but my family & I still bring them up as the best neighbors we've had ever had. When I saw Kurt's photo in the local newspaper this morning, I felt stunned & I immediately cried. It's like it was only a few years ago that they moved away (against our many pleas). Kurt's personality was positively amazing - Always smiling, funny, humble, helpful and optimistic .. I could just go on & on. Damn, I loved his laugh. I am so so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks a lil for everyone he knew who's at least as sad as I am.
God Bless you
Dear Yvette and family,
I have thought about you multiple times these past many years and wondered what you were doing. You were one of my favorite people to work with and know. I often talk about you when discussing the formation of hospice in DeKalb County and all the incredible work that you did. I did not have the privilege of knowing Curt but he sounded like an exceptional individual who contributed so much to every community he lived in. I am so sorry for your loss and send my very warmest condolences to all of you. Much love, Marilyn Stromborg
We wish to extend our condolences to the family on their loss. Curt was a terrific guy and he will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers continue for him and his family.
Yvette,
So very sorry to hear of your loss.

Dear Yvette and family,
I am saddened by the passing of by brother. Curt was one of my first Lt. at DeKalb Fire Department. He taught me so much in the couple of years I had the privilege to work with him. He was and will always be a mentor of mine. I remember a solid unmovable man on calls, who was soft spoken and very caring to the people we dealt with. He taught me how to deal with patients in every way. He had many interests in life not just the fire department. I used to love talking to him on a sunday as he washed his car at the station. I knew when I went on a call with him everything was going to be ok. I am proud to have known him and honored to have worked with him.
Dear Yvette and family,
My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I hope that you are able to celebrate Curt's life as well as grieve his loss. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I have thought of the two of you so often over the years. The times we spent together are very special to me and I miss you both so much. Just the other day I was telling someone about the first IV he started in the field when his forehead was dripping so much I had to wipe it so he could see to continue. I am sorry to hear about Curt passing. He was a very special person. When I think of him I remember his smile and little "chuckle" that always made me laugh. I am thinking of you during this difficult time. May your heart be filled with warm thoughts of treasured moments that will live forever in your heart. I am praying that peace and comfort of those memories will be with you.
Dear Yvette and family, it is with sorrow that I read of Curt's passing. I remember you both fondly and, just a few days ago thoughts of you both had crossed my mind! I was wondering what you were up to. Funny to suddenly think of you both after so many years then to learn of your loss. The spirit lives! May your memories of Curt bring you much comfort in difficult times. <3 Cheryl Bush-Petersen
